Well its a shame BT have clue if they will provide those newer speeds and / or reducing their prices.

I asked them about the new speeds once again and about the new pricing and if they plan to reduce their prices to reflect the price change which I got the following response:
We're not aware that this will happen in the near future, Paul. We'll look into this and get back to you with a more concrete answer next week.

I think their response might of been towards the new speeds, but It's a shame really, I could of done with more upload speed.

Not surprising that BT Retail - or any other ISP for that matter - can't tell you at this very early stage whether they will sell the new 550 & 1000 Mbps tiers. BT's bean counters probably haven't decided yet so there's no chance their front end staff will know. Best to wait after March 2020 once Openreach actually starts selling these to ISPs. But I'm fairly confident at least one of BT, Sky or TalkTalk will sell the new 500 & 1000 tiers in 2020, now that prices have fallen. Sky & Talktalk should start selling Openreach FTTP soon.

Have prices actually fallen from the prices given here.

£59:99 monthly for BT's 300Mbps package is the best I have seen so far.

And, of course, BT Wholesale have to set their prices. Given that they didnít (hmmm!) know what ORís were going to be.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

I meant reduction in the Openreach Wholesale prices for the high end tiers

Current wholesale prices:

500/165 Mbps: £660 p/a + £500 install fee
1000/220 Mbps £960 p/a + £500 install fee

New wholesale prices from March 2020:

500/75 Mbps: £327 p/a + £97 install fee
1000/115 Mbps £375 p/a + £97 install fee

Of course you have to add ISP costs on top such as bandwidth costs, operating costs, profits etc.

500/75 and 1000/115 are not price reductions, just new products at new price points, and those new products won't be available until March 2020 - so no impact on today's retail prices.

As for the existing products, the "reductions" from Sep 1 are minimal. The 330/50 has dropped from £25.39 to £24.28, although the previous price was a "special offer" which has been running since Oct 2017. At least we now know there's no chance of it jumping back to the original price of £38; it's possible retailers have been keeping their prices up against that risk.

Come March 2020, I think we may see service providers replace their 160/30 and 220/20 offerings with a single 220/30 offering. 330/30 is more or less dead already (with exception of FTTPoD), so the next tier up would be 330/50.

The resulting steps are pretty logical: 40/10, 55/10, 80/20, 115/20, 220/30, 330/50, 500/75, 1000/115.

It's a shame they mostly have an 8:1 upload ratio, when the underlying GPON network is 2:1. I guess this is for milking business customers and protecting leased line revenue, until such time as the Altnets get significant coverage and they are forced to respond.

Yes I know the upcoming 500/75 & 1000/115 tiers are technically new products (d/t the reduced uploads) but I would be very surprised if Openreach didnít withdraw the current high end tiers in the next year or two due to the eye watering prices - this is reflected in the fact that very few ISPs sell them currently & and those that do, charge £100s per month. So IMO the new tiers have been released to eventually replace the current ones, albeit with reduced upload speeds.

£45.99 plus 9.99 install on a 18month contract is the cheapest i've seen for the 300Mbits service
