Anyone have knowledge of TrueSpeed ISP?

[link to this post]

Hi,

After hearing about TrueSpeed and registering my interest I was contacted by their Regional Sales Manager and he talked me through their plans about rolling out their network. It all seemed good but my googling of them shows mixed opinions on them. They did however recently win Best Rural ISP at the ISPA. They obviously have a large job rolling out a brand new FTTP network but is it all snake oil or are they one of the good guys?

Has anyone had any experience with them and what are your thoughts?

Thaks

i've been promoting TS in my rural community for 2 years. I'm yet to receive install myself due to remoteness and wayleave delays, but neighbours who have it are pleased.
Points to note-
1) feedback about low penetration wifi signal is only relevant to previous router. Current supplied router is mean to have good wifi signal. Of course, if you have existing wifi network, mesh or otherwise, you can retain that and ask TS to disable wifi on their router.
2) Their helpdesk appears to be Mon-Fri 9-5, so if service goes south outside thouse hours you'll be waiting until next business day for a response.
3) Bar the occasional glitch it really is 200Mb both ways.
4) If you want static IP you have to buy a business package - they don't supply this on the consumer £47/month service.
5) router interface is tied down, so config changes are done by TS via their Service Desk. They're happy to make changes, just don't allow user access.
6) take with a pinch of salt any install date unless your property has already been passed by their network.

I've been told I'll be connected in 1Q20, so will be able to give real feedback from then on.

I should add that I've been promoting TS as we have nothing available beyond ADSL due to 4.5km line length. Openreach FTTP On Demand quoted £12k for 12 houses. G.fast isn't available. Gigaclear have pulled back their rollout plans, Virgin don't cover.

I dread to think what we'd get under the USO.
I've tried 4G, it's OK in good weather but drops off otherwise due to trees and lie of the land.

In USO land.

I would suggest that whether to use them or not depends on the alternatives, the contract details anf what the promised download speed is,

i.e. If you can escape their contract if it does not work, it is probably with a punt.

I am happy with one their competitors. (Gigaclear.)
