Advice on how to get full fibre installed.

[link to this post]

Hi,

I am after some advice for a family member on how (hopefully) they can get some good speed broadband installed.

They have just moved into a new property which is located some distance down a lane from a nearby village. The property is in a small group of 5 similar properties.

The current broadband checker is showing that they can get a FTTC service but at estimated speeds of 7 / 17Mb as they are a good distance form the cab in the village.

All standard so far but.... the other 4 properties all around them show that they can get full FTTP products and the local telegraph pole doest have the FTTP equipment on it.

It is suspected that the previous owner (who was still using ADSL) may have stated that they were not interested when the area was full fibre cabled!

Is there any way to request that the property is connected up to the full fibre that must flow very close to them as it serves all the other 4 houses? Who is best to contact? I do not believe an end user can contact openreach and the ISP's just seem to have a standard script saying they can only get the slow FTTC service.

Any advice appreciated!

Interest from previous occupant should have no bearing on this.

As for the flowing close, millions are close to full fibre a lot will hinge on the exact layout of the network in the area e.g are the 4 other houses on same side of road as family member and within 10 metres or much further away and spread out.

Most likely issue was a new home built and builder did not opt to pay a supplement for FTTP that small developments attract. A retro fit may be possible and if you can email me the details may be able to ask. If the FTTP to those who have ordered is via overhead cables things are probably more likely.

Thanks for the reply MrSafron,

The homes were all built circa 20 years ago so I am assuming the full fibre connectivity was don at a later point, they will be chatting to the neighbours to find out tomorrow.

The 5 houses are certainly not spread out they are all next to each other on a plot. They are are all on the same side of the road, in the same area. and 2 / 3 of them are well within 5 / 10m

If 20 years old then well outside the definition of new in terms of the differences this creates for FTTP possibilities

Is the pole with FTTP within about 30m of your property?

Yes, it is 20 / 30m range from the property.

The telphone cable doe not go all the way over ground though. It comes into the property underground. I need to go when it is light and trace where it disappears!

Does it actually say they can get FTTP or FTTPoD?

AFAIK if the equipment isn't on the pole, its not available.

Sorry that was a bad typo. It should say the pole "does" have the equipment on it.

A check against all the other houses on the plot for ordering directly list as available to order :

1 - Superfast Essential
2 - SuperFast Fibre 2
3 - Ultrafaast Fibre 100 @ 150Mb / 30Mb
4 - Ultrafast Fibre 250 @ 300Mb / 49Mb
