Virgin Media Project Lightning Midlothian rollout

[link to this post]

Just a wee post for anyone in the Midlothian area and have been keeping an eye on Virgins Project Lightning FTTP rollout in the county.

They took their 1st steps in Midlothian a couple years ago and initially covered Bonnyrigg and Loanhead.
Early last year they completed Danderhall.

In mid 2019 they started rolling out to parts of Dalkeith, Woodburn, Kippielaw, Easthouses and parts of Mayfield.
Most of this is now live.
The rest of Mayfield was added to roadworks a couple weeks ago.
They added further parts of Dalkeith (parts of town centre and shadepark area) to roadworks about the same time.

I noticed this evening that Newtongrange and Gorebridge has now been scheduled on for later in 2020 which is quite a large expansion and goes a long way towards their stated coverage target for Midlothian.

I went live with Virgin in December.

I now have OpenReach FTTP on the way too. Not part of BDUK or Fibre First.
My guess is they are losing a lot of custom to Virgin so are over building to try win some of that back.

What's the latency and jitter like on Project Lightning fibre (RFoG) areas compared to legacy copper coax areas?

Mine seems to have been terrible lately, not sure if I'm having more line issues or it's something else.

It used to be very good.

That doesn't seem to be a public/sharing link smile.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Mine is also fibre to the home (RFOG), had a lot of problems last year, drop outs where we'd loose the connection for some time (10 - 15 minutes several times a day), took ages to convince them to sort it out, telephone support was useless made worse by the fact I use it in modem mode. Eventually got somewhere on the forums, the engineer changed just about everything and that fixed it.

Issues this time are different, seems to be periodic very high pings, I need to get around to makeing sure it's nothing my end.
