FTTPoD using old ethernet duct

[link to this post]

I'm just looking at doing something for a client of mine, they have FTTC but the speeds are low (32ish) so they are looking for something more capable.

An ethernet line is too expensive so we thought about using FTTPoD

There is a relatively new duct coming right into the property from the street that served an Ethernet circuit with was ceased last year.

My question is, can this duct be used for FTTPoD to help reduce the cost of deployment

You have to bear in mind that the quote is for providing fibre all the way from the aggregation node.... not just from the nearest box. So whilst it might save a little, it’s not going to save a vast amount.

How was the ceased ethernet circuit provided ? I expect it was over fibre, so in that case there may be a proven route back to the head end already ... now that might save a fair bit ....

biggest issue is where does that ethernet cct go back it (ie what exchange) if that an is an urban exchange is quite probable the exchange has an FTTP head end if that is a rural exchange is quite feasible It goes back to an exchange that is not FTTP headend and you could be talking significant distance to find and Aggregation node that provides a path back the FTTP headend

Is that relevant when FTTPoD is planned and costed from an existing aggregation node? The exchange is pretty much irrelevant. Without knowing the existing NGA network and the old ethernet route its impossible to say whether any of the old circuit route is of use.

The exchange is Nethybridge, so it's fairly rural

The node is likely to be near the local exchange so the cost will be based on providing the network from there.
