BT Business Package Issue

[link to this post]

I have an order in with BT Business for FTTP as that is now available in the area, to cut a long story short placed the order during lockdown and took them up on Business Ultrafast 2 which is the 300mbps package at £56.99

I can see on the residential site that BT have the full fibre 900 available for my address at £59.99 so obviously i rang business to see if i can get that with them under business which presumably is priced slightly different due to various extras i get but nonetheless it is the same product.

Business says i cannot get 900 package with them which i find quite strange, how can it be that residential has access to such speeds and business users cannot.

I am having to cancel my order with business and moving onto standard user which is not ideal but appears to be the only option at the moment if i want those speeds.

Simply because BT Business haven't launched products based on the higher speeds yet.

Business products typically include things like better time-to-repair SLAs, a static IP address, better customer service and/or an account manager. So it's not a like-for-like swap - but if the raw bits-per-second is all that you need, the residential product is certainly very reasonably priced.

Or go with another business provider like Cerberus, although that's more expensive.

Yes I can understand that reasoning I guess, looks like I have made the right decision in the switch to residential then I guess.

Thanks for reply.

BT Business will definitely be selling Fibre 900 "soon" (according to their Twitter team) and they will
be selling the 1000/220 product rather than the 1000/115 service. Their phone sales team won't know much about these products until they're released. It all comes down to whether you want the service now ( in which case go for BT residential) or are willing to wait for a bit and get a slightly better product (better upload) with BT Business. BTB will definitely let you upgrade from 330/50 to 1000/220 even if you've just entered into a new contract.

Cost will be a factor too. Openreach has a £500+VAT setup charge on the 1000/220 product, so BTB will either pass that on as an up-front charge, or factor it into the monthly rental. It could easily be twice the price of the BTR 1000/110 service.

Unless someone has a crystal bowl no-one can predict what BTB will charge for the 1000/220 service. However I'm fairly confident it will be considerably less than the £220+/m Cerberus are charging for the same service, purely down to BT's size and the fact they can purchase bandwidth far cheaper than the smaller ISPs. My guess would be BT will sell the 1000/220 service for around the £100/m mark but on a longer 36 month contract, or something like £150/m on a 12 month contract. With the bigger ISPs they are able to offer cheaper prices in exchange for a 12+ month minimum commitment, though residential services can't be sold for anything more than 24 months in length - no such limits for Business ISPs.

Why did you have to throw a spanner in the works lol!!

Is there going to be much of a difference in the 900/110 to 1000/220 that is noticeable?

Although this account is on a business it is infact a residential address I just happen to have a business myself so put my business addresses and my home under one account.

So the main use for this would be gaming that me and my kids do and various every day devices we tend to see.

My question is this... I obviously need good latency more than I need speeds so is there any benefits in waiting for the 1000/220 which I won’t get from the 900/110?

If you do a lot of large uploads then IMHO that extra 100 Mbps upload will be a godsend. You also get the option of a free static IP address on BTB. I think only you can decide whether its worth paying extra for 1000/220 service with BTB smile

No major uploading this end and don’t need remote access so static ip I can’t foresee a need for that right now.

Think I’ll sleep on it tonight 😂
