Armoured lead-ins?

[link to this post]

Hi Guys,

Requested some information from BT regarding build in current town, I was told due to armoured lead-ins they aren't building? I was sent the picture below? All BT lines are underground. What do they mean? Asking for a friend who wants better broadband

Could they mean directly buried cables rather than ducted?

So in terms of FTTP? is it a no go or how would they build for this if in fuutre? As i've been told it's just not getting built at the moment

The current line is buried directly in the ground in an armoured cable.
This means there's no ducting or telegraph poles to get fibre to the properties.

In such cases OpenReach either need to install new telegraph poles (more common than you would think) or micro trench down the pavement to the boundary of each property.

It can make bringing FTTP more expensive and can mean properties are skipped during a commercial rollout whilst they focus on cheaper and easier to reach homes.

Openreach still do plenty of FTTP on direct buried lines though so it doesn't mean it's a no go.
