Multi FTTP ONT

[link to this post]

HI

my fibre on demand order is due to go live on Monday with Cerberus and to save money I would like to switch my FTTC connection with Zen to BT and get a package deal but this is proving difficult.

first I did an online sales chat with BT and saying I would like to switch to fibre 2 but was told because FTTP is now available then it would switch to a FTTP connection and not FTTC. He said if I phoned customer support they might have more options to force it though as FTTC. according to https://www.thinkbroadband.com/isps/bt/packages/unli... fibre 2 is WBC FTTC 80/20 VDSL2 or WBC FTTP 80/20 FTTP

so I thought if it has to be FTTP then I might as well get full fibre 100 as it's only £8 more a month so I phoned the BT FTTP sales team and was told that openreach only allow 1 ONT per house and all ONT'S are now single port so could not have another FTTP line installed.

anyone else faced this problem / any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks

If you search for CarlTSpeak users posts you see someone who has gone down this path and the official line is currently 1 single port ONT per house.

The author of the above post is a thinkbroadband staff member. It may not constitute an official statement on behalf of thinkbroadband.

If FTTC is just for a low cost backup then there are good deals to be had from Plusnet, Talktalk, Vodafone etc. Since none of them yet offer Openreach FTTP then there's no problem ordering FTTC smile

I use my FTTPoD for business and kept Plusnet FTTC for home. Shame about the 1 ONT/house limitation though. I got the engineer to pull two fibres so I could get another ONT in future (4-port was already no longer available by then). But looks like my second connection may be stuck with FTTC after all.

As for BT using the same product name for entirely different products - don't get me started!

As Mr S says, Openreach usually install a single port ONT these days. However on the day of installation, ask the Engineer if he has a 4 port ONT in van as a spare..chances are slim but you never know. Alternatively if you can buy an unregistered genuine Openreach 4 port ONT (Huawei HG8240) in advance (eg from ebay), then the Openreach Engineer may be able to activate this for you instead of the single port ONT.
