Slow speeds BT Fibre 900

[link to this post]

Hi All,
Wondering if someone could help me out trying to figure out why i'm not pulling the 910mbps on my new FTTP install?

Setup is :
USG4-Pro router, Unifi Switches / APs.

Just did a test on a PC physically plugged in to the switch on I.E browser :
My Broadband Speed Test
My Broadband Speed Test

Yesterday i reconfigured the whole network from fresh as was having DHCP issues with the USG, so not sure if that is to blame.
I tried the smarthub2 and was getting about 400mbps download.

any ideas?

thanks!

Use the smarthub, connect one PC via ethernet. If you don't get the speeds, then call BT as you could be on the wrong profile.

Rule out ALL of your network kit in this testing.

okay will do that.
Is there a best way of doing a speed test? is there a non browser based one that can be used?

The IPv6 issue could be due to a lot of things. Router firmware is one. For example, my Mikrotik hEX PoE can do over 900Mbps of IPv4 with Fastpath, but only ~300Mbps of IPv6 because the vendor hasn't implemented Fastpath for IPv6.

There are other system optimisations, like TCP offloading for your network card, which might only work for IPv4 and not IPv6.

You *should* get native IPv6 from BT, but worth checking you've not picked up Teredo tunnelling or something weird like that. Look at the first two parts of your IPv6 address (2XXX:XXXX:), either post here or check with a "whois" service, and it should be clear if this is a BT native IPv6 address or not.

The trouble with gigabit services is that they turn up these sorts of issues smile

Speed test should not pick up the weird stuff, if auto detecting as BT IPv6 then seeing a public IPv6 address

The file downloads at https://www.thinkbroadband.com/download can help those who want to avoid browser or doubt speed test script

i too am suffering from slow speeds. i upgraded to the 900 the day it was launched, went live 2 days later.

when i hard wire to the hub, or set up a direct PPPoE connection to the ONT with my laptop (which is a high end laptop with Gigabit ethernet ) the most i see is around the 450 mark. upload is ok and is normally between 80 - 115.

the below test was just ran on a direct PPPoE with laptop.

Same!

Got the install on Friday last week i am only pulling in 500 down and 50 up using the smart hub they sent and when i use the netgear xr500 i get 550 down and 105 up.

Aware there is an issue with upload capping on the bt smart hub so have switched to the xr500 but not seeing any download going anywhere near 900 as of yet.

Tried direct to the ONT and all very similar.

Is there a settling in period like fttc i wouldn't have thought so as others getting full on day 1, also noticed my external ip address is changing even without disconnects which i found interesting.

I would do a BQM then it would all go red everytime the IP changes.

frustrated at the moment to say the least.
