We're switching from Zen FTTP -> BT FTTP.
BT say we can't migrate FTTP service "ADSL-style", so we're on a two-month wait list to have a multi-port ONT installed by an Openreach engineer. (I'm sure it's a plug-and-play thing, but BT say Opeanreach will not just send out a new ONT without an engineer), but they can remotely provision the new service if we cease the existing FTTP to free up the only ONT port.
We ceased the existing FTTP on 28th (over a week ago), and still getting status ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available.
Does anyone have any estimate how long FTTP should take to cease & free up the ONT port?
Thanks

Usually within 24 hours. Have you asked Zen if their cease order is still open?

I did ask Zen about this. All they replied is to confirm my account is now closed.
I will email them again to confirm the FTTP has been ceased with Openreach.
Thanks

You might just have to wait for the database to be updated, how long that could take I don't know.

From personal experience with a four port ONT and ceasing one FTTP connection with Zen, it took nearly four weeks for the OR database to show a spare port available,
I do not know where the delay was. I do not think Zen were holding things up - their system showed completed, but at the time it didn't cause me any problems.
Hopefully it will clear quicker than that for you.

Are you saying all 4 ports on your ONT had live services at one stage? As that's the only scenario where the BT/Openreach checker wouldn't show port availability on a 4 port ONT.

We currently have a 1-port ONT & (BT are saying) there is a 2 month wait for a new 4-port ONT install.
We opted to cease the existing service to free up the 1-port ONT, but now we're stuck with no service & no free ONT port.
Thanks

Probably a database error then. I suggest emailing Mr S (Andrew) and politely asking him if he can get Openreach to fix the database error. Send him a box of chocolates as a thank you

Yes..that is correct.

we're on a two-month wait list to have a multi-port ONT installed by an Openreach engineer.
Can I ask what process you used to request a swap from 1-port to 4-port ONT? Was this via the new ISP, i.e. BT?
I asked for a 4-port install so that I could get both business and home services on FTTP, but was told by the installing engineer that it was not possible to get a 4-port ONT any more.

I ordered FTTP from BT Business while I still had active FTTP from Zen, initially expecting to be able to "migrate" my service.
BT Business said they would "just provision the service on Port 2" -- when I told them I only had a 1-port ONT, they told me an engineer visit would be needed to upgrade the ONT.
Hearing about the lack of 4-port ONTs now, do you think they intend(ed) to just install a second FTTP service, with a separate 1-port ONT? I believe you can only have one ONT per address, so a multi-port ONT would be the only option.
Hopefully Openreach / ISPs will support standard migration soon, because this is a nightmare!
Upside is I'm saving a bit of money this month using 4G tethering, but the (lack of!) speed is painful!

I think there are still loads of new unused 4 Port ONT's available as well as used ones from properties that had them swapped over to the Single Port ones.

I don't know, and we won't find out now. Miscommunication from BT is not uncommon unfortunately.
Like you said, it would make sense to be able to swap the ONT where multiple services are required - rather refusing to supply multiple services at the same location. Whether that has been implemented as a workable ordering process is another matter.

Unless faulty why would Openreach swap out the 4 port ONTs for single port ONTs?

They / we already do (we as in Aquiss), however, it seems that some providers just don't have a clue how to correctly process them.
