What are the chances of my area now not getting FTTP

[link to this post]

Slightly long winded.

Earlier last week, i contacted openreach regarding FTTP deployment as Hampshire said it will happen last August, OR previously said Dec 2020.

Yesterday I received this comment back from OR via Email.

"I've received a reply from the project manager and they are awaiting permission grant to complete the project. They are trying to get the permission so that they could complete the work related to your query."

Which sounded odd. I live in the new forest, and Verderers of the New Forest are an additional issue. So I naturally assumed it would be internal OR, councils(hcc or nfc) or the Verderers causing the wait. Way-leaves are the other issue.

I was going to just wait for OR to reply and One network to show the roadworks. Because i've been in lock down, i've not even been outside beyond my garden.

Anyhoo The pole opposite me now has this and this on it

The nearest copper DP has this and this

The pole that originally had fibre on it now has more fibre but isn't completed.

So the questions for me are.

Is the standard "how long is a piece of string is" to me ordering fttp still applies? I know that previously in other areas, fibre has been installed and not been lit (TBB forums have had a few threads).

What could cause the hold up as communicated to me?

Given the design of gpon and its use of splitters, if theres a hold up on one pole (say in somebody's garden) would that affect deployment on that 32 user fibre path (insert better wording).

I know i should be patient but after having 1mbit upload since adsl days its starting to cause issues. Especially as i do need to do large file transfers.

Some poles near me have had the coils of fibre for a few months now, suspect teams doing that part of the job are able to get around faster than the ones doing the runs between poles whether its underground or overhead.

Sometimes a new area can be fully built but be waiting on a headend cabinet i.e. handover exchange kit is full, another can be that Openreach people working say its all lit up but you cannot order yet as it needs the final commissioning light checks and any snags fixed (e.g. one pole in village had the fibre hanging outside the animal guard, then this got fixed a few weeks later, another had a connector open to the air but not been past that spot for a few months now to see if fixed)

Interesting info the head exchange, as ours would be christchurch, and it seemed only part of was done, as some disappeared on one network (dammit streetworks sounds soo much better).

That said, some parts of the same exchange area already have Fttp, and thats set at 1gbits/220 on the dsl checker.

As for the poles, the original pole that had fibre dangling from it, its been like that for two years. The new additions (which i didn't notice) happened in the last two months.

Does all of the spliters to one node need to be in place for the light test ?

Also As I have:

[my house] ---->nearest pole (with the final fibre dp - 8 port)---->pole---->pole--->pole (copper dp and now with a 12 port fibre dp)

would the 8port dp connect overhead or via ducting ? I'm just wondering if its work looking between the poles...

Sorry I feel like a kid at xmas. Like others its wanting to order but having to wait!

If the node is an aggregation node, no.

As for how your DP will connect, overhead if no ducting available or if ducting is badly damaged and not easy to clear

Our copper is overhead to the copper dp. So I expect the same for the fibre cabling (of course that could change). There is no fibre going into the ground.

Also i can't seem to see any new cabling overhead. Would tree issues mean the ovearhead mean that is part of the delay. As the council would have clear that part (as its their land - we have 4 houses which are council owned)

The trees part not sure, the run to me has same issue but a new house had its copper run through bits of trees with no trimming.

They have a new plastic shroud to help lengthen the life span due to tree rubbing, meant to be several decades long...so guess we might both see some of that wrap. Looks like a big cable table wrap you can buy.

But roadworks around the headend exchange in Christchurch shouldn’t affect your FTTP. If your village or town has FTTC then the long distance cables from the headend to the fibre cabinets in your area is already in place. Spare fibre will be used for FTTP.

Or did you never get FTTC?

I'm on the Bransgore exchange, which is fttc enabled. and a few (4 postcodes) have fttp, my cab is fttc enabled so I suspect the spare fibre has been used. The cabling that was done in feb this year, was for spline cabling, from near bransgore's exchange to to christchurch.. But some of it disappeared from one.network. And your quite right, the spline cabling work if not completed, wouldn't effect deployment of the infrastructure.

The duct clearing work was done last summer.

We are in years for the fttp build frown hence the frustration. Yes I'm more than aware that many others are in the same (or worse situation).

All i'm trying to do is work out what issue is holding it up and if its major or minor. Wales I believe had many instances of fibre infrastructure being deployed and then halted.

Wales was down to the BDUK contract and how that operated rather than infrastructure issues mainly

True, and this is one of the last Hampshire Bduk Wave 2 installs. some of the New forest fftc stuff has either been delayed or with one fttc cab actually being moved from its intended position.

Plus the team that was dealing with broadband enquires are now not often tweeting, or taking months to reply to emails.
