FTTC Openreach modem?

[link to this post]

I'm in the middle of an upgrade from VDSL (Zen Fibre 2, getting about 70/20 sync speeds) to Zen's Fibre 3 (estimated 160/20); I need to use my own router for various reasons, so I've been informed this is fine since Openreach will supply their own G.Fast modem.
Could anyone confirm if this is the case, and what kind of equipment they supply nowadays?
Thank you!

Does it matter? I'm sure I remember removing the Openreach modem and router and replacing them with my own FritzBox which does both jobs. So you could do that, choose a router which is G-Fast compatible. Or plug the OR modem into your existing router and disable its modem function?

OpenReach will provide you with a Huawei MT992 G.Fast modem.

You just need your own router.

Yes, it does matter.
I have this Zen VDSL connection via a Huawei HG612 modem, plus a Virgin Media connection (using their Super Hub in modem-only mode) and they're both plugged into a Ubiquiti USG. I do some funky failover / policy based routing using both links and I would very much like to keep doing that, with both public IPs on the USG.
Yes I could get my own new G.Fast modem/router for the purpose of this upgrade and use it in modem only mode, but why would I spend another £150+ if OR are supplying something already? That's why I was asking whether and what OR might supply smile

Just to update this - yes, they do indeed deploy a MT992 and you can use your own router. My Zen credentials stayed the same, so it was literally just plugging the new modem instead of the previous HG613, and it was done.

So, the Zen estimate was 160Mbps (144-160Mbps estimate) and 21.8Mbps up.
The Openreach checker says:

G.fast Range A (Clean) 277.2 199.2 44.9 21.8 175.7
G.fast Range B (Impacted) 241.3 175.7 31.6 15.8 161.5

Current sync rate (according to Zen's pages) is 150/26, speed tests are showing 140/26.

So I seem to be... slightly lower than expected on downstream, but higher on upstream? Yes I went for Fibre3 not Fibre4, but shouldn't that sync slightly higher?

What speeds are you getting? You've just posted two estimates as far as I can tell.

I don't believe the Zen portal shows the true sync rate.
You're probably synced at the full 160Mb.
