Openreach Street Markings

Hello,

Back in May Openreach were all over our small estate like a rash - I spoke to one of the engioneers and he said that they were 'hopefully' going to be putting FTTP to all homes. HOOORRAAYYY
After a couple of weeks passed I started checking on DSL checker if I could get FTTP and I Cannot.
As a test i put in my nextdoor but one neighbour and was surprised to find that they can now get FTTP (Not FTTPOD)
It would appear that Openreach have cbaled the top part of my estate but not my house.
I have been in contact with OR and all they say is that my postcode will be FTTP enabled by the end of september. My argument is that (some) of my postcode is already live and I am just trying to find out if my property is going to get it by end of September.
When walking the dog I always have a look at the BT chamber ion the footpath to see if they have been disturbed and none of them on my part of the street have, unsurprisingly the ones by my next door but one neighbours have.
A week or so ago I noticed a marking on the pavemennt a couple of feet from a current BT Chamber - its in white spray paint, its a rectangle roughtly the size of a bt chamber with a cross through it and a line going from top to bottom (which is 90 degrees orientation to the way the cable will flow down the street) - has any one got any ideas whit this marking is for - does it sound like x marks the spot for a blocked duct or does it sound like a new chamber is being installed?

X with inside a rectangle is usually a new jointbox but I’ve also seen JB written inside the box. Jointboxes are what you lot call chambers

I imagine the new jointbox will House the FTTP distribution point for your part of the road, so it does sound like encouraging news.

That’s good to know. I thought people were referring to an actual joint box like an electrical terminal connector when they said joint box. Are the ugly black cylinder shaped containers in the chambers the DP for copper lines?

I agree, or maybe a collapsed duct, I have seen a few collapsed ducts near me where one just had a small hole dug to replace / repair the broken duct to a whole duct between two chambers replaced.

I was expecting to see an image of the smaller old narrow chamber and the markings to say its to be dug and enlarged, but there is already one.

What do the road works websites say? (someone will be along in a minute with the URL cos its different here and you may live there).

Locally I've seen much OR work and a look on the websites say where they're fixing blocked ducts, building a "chamber" or running cable.

Chekced on roadworks.org and there is nothing listed on our estate for the next 12 months

For a blocked duct we would usually just draw a small square on the pavement exactly where we wanted them to dig and mark with BT.

Also worth remembering that the first thing Openreach do when prepping an area for FTTP is to sort out all the blocked ducts so the contractors can push the new cables through. So even if it is a blocked duct that still may be encouraging.

Marking is identifying electric cable and possibly another adjacent service.

I’m sure jointbox has been the official term for many years. Hence the naming of them, JB23 etc.

A JF6 is a two lidded footway box.

The others, quite possibly, different varieties of the same.

I dare say poster MC31 may have the complete answer.

Here what I have always believed but don't know for a fact so would be good to have it confirmed/denied

JF6 = is the frame and cover for a 1310X610mm chamber but not the chamber itself.

JMF106 = is a modular 1310X610mm chamber in 150mm sections (character after 106 determines depth e.g. c=750mm d=900mm) but not the frame and cover.

JBF106 = is a brick built chamber (character after 106 determines depth e.g. c=750mm d=900mm) but not the frame and cover.
