Question about CityFiber

[link to this post]

Over the past few weeks of CityFiber installing in my area I have noticed that outside some houses where they mark on the street where they are digging up the path they have marked some as "X2" but in the end only install 1 "access cover". Whats does this "X2" mean?

I am guessing it means that 2 connections to that house/building are needed? Or is it something else.. hmmm

The thing with a cover on it is called a toby box. It's possible they could run two microducts to the same toby box, to serve two properties (e.g. upstairs and downstairs flats).

Ok, so there is only one of these toby boxes outside my block of flats, there are 5 flats here. Does that mean they can only serve 1 flat?

I'm sure they will have planned it so that they can serve all 5 flats. For example they could run a multistrand fibre cable through the duct, and put a breakout box on the outside of the building, when the first installation is done.

I have another question

Workers were out today blowing fiber down my street, does anyone know how long it takes from this stage to when someone can order?

I ask as my VM contract is up next month and I can currently cancel for £20

I would say it is very unlikely to be in the next month, there is probably a lot more to do before it is available to order. maybe several weeks, a few months or a year or more, it is the unknown "how long is a piece of string" question.smile

They tend to release in "chunks" of areas, it will depend if you are at the start or end of a section, for me I was at the start so it was about 3 or 4 months wait, where as the ones at the end must have only waited a few weeks. Look out for white vans with cables sticking out the back, these are the chaps joining everything up and is a good sign they getting on with things.

Getting closer now..

People on one side of the main road here can order. If you know the area here in Peterborough, Oundle Road, Palmerston Arms. All down that side can order fibre but on the other side they can not.

I did see some CityFibre guys out in the street checking out the green cabs in the area and my street.
