Global Crossing - Century Link Overlay Fibre Cable?

I note we have work appearing One.Network for 'Global Crossing - Century Link Overlay Fibre Cable', it appears to be running from Whitstable to Thanet (and running through a local village) with work taking place overnight.

This doesn't appear to be regular Openreach work but I assume this is for increasing backhaul around the area now that FTTP is being rolled out fairly swiftly across our area?

Just curious as to what this work was. smile

Kinda. Upgrade of national dark fibre network. Part of a wider program.

Building better networks, not just faster ones.

As per the previous replies, there's a lot of fibre in the ground that has nothing to do with broadband. I have an euNetworks metro fibre running down the end of my road, and a Colt data centre link past the back gate, but it does nothing to improve my broadband availability.
