FTTP madness

[link to this post]

I have just spotted on the ThinkBB FTTP map two dots of FTTP availability for the bottom of my street and adjoining cul-de-sac.

I have noticed since living here houses at the bottom of the road to midway (80 houses on the street) have a different Openreach grey box on the house compared to mine and the others at the top. A wider and thicker box compared to mine which is a standard Openreach copper cover but thought nothing of it.

It seems the bottom half of the street does have FTTP yet us at the top are on copper. We're the furthest away from the cab at the bottom of the road (about 350m).

Our houses were the last to be finished on the development. Ironically there is a cabinet at the top of the road about 70m from my house but we're not connected to it.

Any idea why Openreach stopped half way up the street?

I have always wondered how I manage to get near enough full line speed on FTTC at 350m. Crosstalk must be incredibly low!

It's native FTTP by the looks fitted when the estate was built.

If the development was built in stages then it's possible that the first bunch were ordered with FTTP and the bean counters got involved to put a stop to that, or they got feedback from the first people to move in about "not being able to get Sky broadband" and changed their approach for the later phases.

Openreach will generally install what developers ask for.

OpenReach build what the developer ordered.

There's a few developments around me where the 1st stages are copper and the rest is FTTP.

There's frequently threads posted here complaining of the exact same thing. Initial states are copper only then everything built later is FTTP.

Don't blame OpenReach, blame your developer.

The good news is new builds with copper are easily upgraded and OpenReach are doing huge amounts of that at the moment.
They covered me with this recently.

Yeah it was in 2 phases. Phase 1 having the FTTP. Phase 2 on copper.

It's mad how one side of a semi detached house is on FTTC, the other is on FTTP.

That's quite backwards to the usual we see.
Usually the earlier properties are copper and later properties are FTTP.

Very backwards for a developer to regress from fibre to copper on a development.

There is an older adjacent estate at the bottom of my street which is also FTTP.

That's the only reason I can think they FTTP'd the bottom.
