In some parts of Edinburgh they have overbuilt entire G.Fast pods coverage with FTTP.

In other parts of the City they have only deployed FTTP to those with lower G.Fast estimates. They have skipped FTTP for those with full/very high G.Fast estimates.

I recall CarlT pointing out they did similar in parts of Leeds (specifically around Hunslet PCP 82).
They rolled out FTTP and skipped many of the houses with full G.Fast estimates.

So there may be some truth in what the engineer told your neighbour.
They may only skip FTTP for those with the highest G.Fast estimates.
They may overbuilt the whole G.Fast pod though.

They might bring FTTP to my area because my G.fast estimated is very low below:
