Full Fibre on the way

[link to this post]

So I posted this thread back in October. BT Openreach has been installing full fiber to the school opposite our house and I was unsure I would be able to take advantage of this.
Well an update, yesterday I noticed an Openreach engineer was walking around so went to talk to him. He was auditing the installation and checking what properties could also get full fiber and luckily ours is one of them. He did mention that only a few properties have been included (3 or 4) because most of the other polls have a Red D sticker which apparently means they can not be climbed so it looks like we were one of the lucky ones!
He said this should be available to order in approx 2-3 weeks.

I am currently with sky fiber (getting 21-23MB) so my question is does anyone know how good sky is at installing this or can advise a good provider to look at for full fiber?

Sky won’t be doing the install, Openreach will.

Just choose your fibre ISP.

Yes, a D pole cannot be climbed, but can be access by a hoist.

As above, our pole is do not climb, they just bring out the van with hoist, although I think the Rumanians who put the fibre up the pole never bothered with one.

Nice, the only problem is that most providers that uses OR fibre network is overpriced.
As been said it will be openreach that does all the work to your house or one of their contractors., as for the pole, I am sure they have got equipment that will get them up there without climbing. I have never seen anyone climb the pole outside my place, when OR last done some work on it, they use a lift.

Sky *do* sell FTTP - although it's not necessarily available in all areas. Last time I looked, price was £27 for 80/20 and £35 for 150/30, which is pretty good. (Update: currently on "sale" at £25 and £33 respectively, 18 month contract, £20 setup fee)

Alternatives include BT, Talktalk (Ultrafast 150M or 500M only, and no phone service), Zen, and a number of smaller ones.

Whoever you order from, an Openreach engineer will do the installation of fibre from outside your house to inside, and install a small box (Optical Network Termination - ONT) on the wall. You'll then plug the ISP-supplied router's WAN port into the ONT.

If your service includes voice, it will normally be provided on a port on the ISP-supplied router. If you order from BT, they *might* continue to provide voice on the copper.

So, checked the BT Wholesale Broadband Checker this morning and it is now showing that WBC FTTC is available which is progress but still not showing on any of the checkers. Tried the BT Openreach fibre checker and not showing on that yet.

Fingers crossed this will be showing in a few days once it has filtered through, so I can get it ordered. Have a feeling Sky (current provider) might be an issue but will wait and see.

Hi

FTTC is not full fibre (as its fibre to the cabinet)
you would need to see FTTP (Fibre to the Property) for full native fibre

Originally on <n>ildram Broadband Pro (2mb)

then - Orange - Virgin - Sky LLU - EE - BT - SKY
Now - Utility Warehouse (TalkTalk LLU)

you need it to show WBC FTTP

once it does that you will be able to order from your chosen provider (assuming they offer FTTP)
