OpenReach trialling new Nokia 4 port ONT

[link to this post]

They are going to be trialling a 4 port ONT in the summer.
This can only be used in Nokia FTTP areas.

They will initially provide a 1 port ONT.
Anyone who orders a 2nd service will have the ONT switched for a 4 port.

They are considering similar for Huawei areas.

Edit:

More pics of the device in black (with phone ports that won't be present)

Can anyone find the model number of this ONT?

One thing I that wondered when reading that article (but couldn't find the answer in the article) is whether it's a GPON ONT, or an XGPON ONT. I can see logic for either.

I'd be amazed if it wasn't just GPON.

Aren't the single port Nokia ONT's they use currently XGPON able? If so would thought they would use similar.

I can only find pictures of the device on the Nokia ONT portfolio page.
It's pictured in black with 2 telephone ports.

It's almost certainly a custom white version of the ONT in those pictures.

The small white Nokia ONT OpenReach use is also black in colour on the Nokia website.

I'd like to find the model number myself.

No.
GPON only.
We haven't seen any ONT's from OpenReach that do above GPON.

OpenReach trialled XG-PON but I believe they have skipped it and intend on going to XGS-PON instead.

The difference in cost between a GPON ONT and an XGS-PON ONT is huge. It makes absolute no sense to make the default ONT supplied anything other than GPON.

Edit: small Nokia ONT data sheet: https://www.wdcnet.com.co/wp-content/uploads/2019/01...

Given the current Nokia naming conventions likely G-040G-x. The first letter is uplink type (G = GPON), the three digits are number of POTS ports / number of ethernet ports / RF (0=no, 1-yes), followed by "most important interface" (G = gigabit ethernet). I've not found any definitive description of the last letter, possibly for different enclosure styling of the same basic hardware for different markets.

There are some G-240x-x models in other markets, I suspect it will be a custom variant for Openreach without POTS ports.

Indeed its expensive as it's quite an additional cost for the transmit laser to support XGS-PON, certainly given most people will not use it anytime soon, so it is G-PON only.

Are theses Ethernet ports or Fibre ports. ?.

If you want two services in the future for (one for house now and one latter for 'Granny Flat') do you have one of these or you have two separate ONT's ?.
