Is BT or TalkTalk FTTP a Dynamic Ip

[link to this post]

I’m looking to switch to a ISP that offers a dynamic ip address which changes on each reset of the modem and I was told that Talktalk and BT both offer this service but from what I’ve seen online that both isp ip’s can be stick up address to which don’t change I was just wondering if anyone can confirm either from Talktalk or BT that the IP address will change on each reset of the router even with FTTP

No ISP *guarantees* that your IP address will change from session to session.

Your IP address comes from a pool that the BRAS has. If your session hits the same BRAS, and the original IP address is still available, the BRAS may choose to reassign the previous IP address to you rather than pick a random one, i.e. give "sticky" behaviour.

I have to wonder what nefarious activities you are up to which *require* you to get a new IP address??

Thanks for the reply and I have friends that are on both BT and Talktalk but only on FTTC and there ips change every reset and was wondering if this is the case with FTTP and the reason I want this service is due to ongoing issues mainly with getting DDOSed and other issues with my current isp

Are you quite sure you're falling victim to a DDoS attack?

A non sticky DHCP address won't be of much use there. Have you discussed the attacks with your current service provider?

Yeah it’s definitely a ddos attack as these are very common now on online gaming and I know who the person is who did it and I’m currently with virgin media and they’re known for a static up that only changes a few times a year

Last time i checked that fell under the Computer Missuse Act, so if you know the person get them grassed up, no time for DDOS'sers (Replace the D with a T).

Unless you're on a leased line, and you'll have to filter through your ISP's servers before the internet connection actually reaches your home, so maybe something else is up with your traffic?
