Can't order fibre but nextdoor can?

[link to this post]

I've tried to get my current broadband with Sky transferred to a house that I'm buying, and the customer service person discovered that the house next door could place a fibre order but that it wasn't possible to the particular house that I'm buying. From looking at the BT broadband checker, but properties seem to be connected to the same cabinet. I could understand if there was no space available in the cabinet, but that doesn't seem to be the case? Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is?

Use the "address checker" option, rather than phone number checker. It will show "waiting list" if the cabinet is full. Here is an example of what you might see if the cabinet is full.

Next door shows waiting list, but also Gfast. The house that I'm buying doesn't have the Gfast bit, just waiting list...

OK that's clear: both properties can get FTTC, but the cabinet is full.

If you search for the exchange and cabinet at codelook you may find if the cabinet is scheduled for expansion.

Otherwise, you'll be stuck taking ADSL, and have to check daily for a free port. Ask if Sky will give you ADSL and then later upgrade to FTTC when it's available.

As for G.Fast, you could be right on the boundary - it really only works if you're *very* close to the cabinet, and the speed range shown is low (despite the "green" assessment). However, there's a chance that someone else in the area will upgrade to G.Fast, which in turn will free up a VDSL port for you.

I ended up getting Sky to cease my broadband with them after my move date, as they said they had to do that for free because they couldn't offer me fibre, and as there is Virgin available I'll put in an order with them instead, if I won't be getting fibre with any OR provider anytime soon.

Nothing about an upgrade, as far as I can see?

You're right. Normally, planned upgrades show up beside the cabinet in the list of cabinets:
