1960's I-Spy Books - a FTTP edition one day?

[link to this post]

I keep an eye out for "Caution Overhead Fibre" yellow labels on DPs.
http://andysworld.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/...

A few days ago noticed one - I now realise that it has been there about 6 months - on DP178 at 53.188175 -3.027012 (there is only one pole, Google Street View seems to have a bad join there!) There is no fibre running up the pole, nor any overhead.

Strangely, just to the north opposite the road junction with Bennett's Lane is a GEO manhole for the Welsh Government Fibrespeed network between Manchester and across north Wales to Holyhead. https://techmonitor.ai/techonology/data-centre/fibre... It links business parks where you can have either a direct fibre connection or a microwave link. There are such nodes at St Davids Park Ewloe and adjacent to Airbus at the Hawarden Business Park. Rather bare lattice masts.

But nothing to do with DP178. The 3-lidded manhole just to the south is a BT one and is on the fibre route to FTTC cabinets to the north.

So, is a Yellow Label a precursor to FTTP or does it usually get nailed on afterwards? All the other yellow labels I've seen have fibre running up the pole and fibre overheads.

There are some other yellow labels on poles in Hawarden, one for the Doctors and another by a school.

Cheers!

They do get put on poles carrying fibre .... not just those with fibre line plant on them.

And these can be tricky to spot from ground level, looking mighty similar to other overhead cabling.

Having a look at the BT checker shows FTTP planned for most of the houses in Gladstone Way up to No. 39 but there seems to be a delay, all the Underground fed say blocked duct and the ones fed from that pole (which does have fibre hardware on it tangled up in the tree branches!) say traffic management required. There are some lengthy cable spans across the A550.smile

Interesting.
Went and had a look yesterday. I think what fooled me previously was that the "cable" on the pole does not have any yellow stripe. Also, noted today that the CBT does not appear to have drop fibres coming from it. Could be mistaken though since too may twigs, branches etc, especially with Google's join showing two of everything...

Looking on CodeLock, keying in CH5 3HE which is is the post code for Gladstone Way, CodeLock lists it as Hillside, which is one of the junctions a little further to the north.

What puzzles me is that when in the area of other exchanges such as Buckley and Deeside (the old Connah's Quay exchange which is actually located in Shotton) OR seem to install fibre to the more distant premises first. Yet this DP on Gladstone Way is about a kilometre from our house. Unless someone nearby has gone for FTTD?

Cheers!

There are no drop fibres from the CBT because FTTP is still showing as planned and not available to order. The fibres to the premises would only be installed when orders are fulfilled.

True enough (I had forgotten that!)

What is puzzling me is as to why OR chose that DP to be readied for FTTP when there are FTTC subscribers at a greater distance with not a great speed, such as myself! https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/16166120257... I am connected to CAB 2 for FTTC about 550 metres away. Hence a little envious...

As a County Councillor I receive advance notice of road closure orders etc. A few days received one for the area of that pole for 19.07.21 to 21.07.2021 2100 to 0600.

Road closure: Gladstone Way jnc Bennetts Lane to jnc Cross Tree Lane, Hawarden CH5 3HB. This for Access to Underground structure - cabling for new customer connection.

Cheers!
