Gigaclear network

[link to this post]

Does anyone know any details about the technology used in the Gigaclear network, it is a symmetrical gigabit capable network, but I'm unsure of the contention ratio and the type of hardware used. (apart from the DMK-comega 79745 CPE)

I have had a symmetric Gigaclear gigabit service for 6 years. Speed tests from a wired computer are generally above 600Mbps. I recently got a fast speed test using Linux Mint. I don't think you could order the product I have for a new service. The fibre connects to a Genexis Live Titanium which originally was a router that I could access. About 6 months ago I had the box changed to work in bridge mode and I use a separate router.

You would need ask Gigaclear what they could provide at a particular location.

An old slide had them using Keymile gigabit ethernet switches, and the link from the cabinets to each subscriber is a point to point fibre link (no PON).

Yes as noted their network is point-to-point topology (as opposed to a PON architecture).

There’s some good info on their product specification for wholesale Ethernet information on their website here.

Looks like they run several VLANs - contended residential, contended business and dedicated non-contended business (similar to EAD leased line) services.

Contention on their resi broadband service is 25:1
Business broadband contention is 10:1
Obviously the non-contended business service would have dedicated bandwidth.

See wholesale price list for further details.

Wow, those EAD charges are pretty steep, though I guess you're getting the backhaul with that as well.

There's no way they could compete on book prices in major towns and cities on EAD with those prices, but if its deep in the stix and the customer faces massive ECC's from the usual suspects, and they have reasonably close presence, it may work the numbers more...
