BT Halo costs

[link to this post]

Good evening all

Im a BT customer and I was on fibre 1 with calls and paying £59.49 per month. Im now on Halo 1 which I didnt ask for and paying £62.49.

Now I have been a customer for some years but through a mixture of concern about losing the reliability of connection. And just not getting off my ass to finding a better deal I have put up with this. But now I feel it is an extraordinary amount of money im paying for fibre broadband

May I ask what others are paying for a similar deal as me.

Thanks in advance.

Well, a *new* BT customer would pay £28.99 per month, on a 24 month contract, for Fibre 1 (including line rental, but without inclusive calls): see https://www.bt.com/products/broadband/deals/

That gives you an idea quite how much BT are currently ripping you off.

The cheapest way to get inclusive calls is probably to use your mobile. If you prefer to use a landline, but don't use it very much, an Indirect Access provider like 18185.co.uk may suit you (you just have to remember to dial 18185 in front of each call). And if you make lots of landline calls, then maybe a package makes sense, but it shouldn't cost you more than about £8-£10 per month.

If you want to stay with BT (despite them having ripped you off), then you should call them up and say you are leaving unless you match the price offered to new customers.

Otherwise, there are plenty of other providers happy to take your money and charge a reasonable price.

You didn't say whether your Fibre 1 is "full fibre" (FTTP) or "hybrid fibre" (fibre to the cabinet, and then copper to your home, which is more common). You will have slightly more restricted choice of providers with FTTP, e.g. it's not available from Plusnet; or some providers only provide it without voice service, e.g. Talktalk.

BT retentions deal after I started migrating they came back with 25.99 for fibre 2

That expired and rang sky (have tv with then) they added top broadband package 80 down 20 up and it’s £19 a month. Again retentions, if you try them a few times it appears some people in sky have unlimited offers to give away. Seems luck of the draw…

To put it into perspective I have sky tv, every channel excluding sky sports, latest sky Q boxes and latest router, 2 wireless boosters (which BT charge for - I get them free as the second tv box is other side of the house and they have to ensure good WiFi signal for it), I have multi room (2 rooms sky tv), Netflix 4K included, Sky Ultra HD, Discovery plus free for a year and my total bill is £59!

Attached below screenshot of my sky bill and all discounts.

So yes - your bill in my eyes is INSANE!

There are a bunch of providers who will sell you 40/10 FTTC for around £23 per month, or 80/20 for around £28 per month, at their standard list prices.

Your current "fibre 1" service is a slightly unusual speed, being 55/10. If you're not even achieving 55M on your line then you should just take 40/10. If you are getting a solid 55/10 now, and your modem stats say your line is capable of more (or the wholesale checker does), then you could opt for 80/20 and still pay much less than you do today.

If you have an online account with BT you can just go to that and look at your offers. I have Halo 3 on the 900Mbps package with a mobile contract and am paying about the same as you are per month.

I was getting bombarded by Vodafone to switch ISP from BT. I rang BT retentions and ended up with Fibre 2, Halo 1 and 2 mobile contracts for £45.
