DCMS Gigabit vouchers - not eligible

[link to this post]

Really thinking about doing down the FTTPoD route. I had a quote a year or so ago with Cerberus which came back at £10k+ inc VAT.

I have come to the conclusion that my village Ibstock isn't getting FTTP anytime in the next few years looking at OR latest build plans (even then will be surprised)

Was seriously thinking of just going ahead again but now it seems i cant even claim a gigabit voucher? Is there anyway to challenge this??

My estate isn't (and highly unlikely) covered by VM and there is no sign at all OR or any altnets in the next years deploying in my village.

Hey - So they redrew the rules for claiming a RGBV and is not only open to OFCOM area 3 postcodes.

However, as far as i'm aware you can't use RGBV on single order FTTPoD anyway, only on joint orders.

Are you eligible for a voucher at all? Or can you just not order a cerebus fttpod with a voucher?

The old gigabit voucher scheme terminated, and the newer one has much reduced eligibility - basically it's now only "rural" areas, using a very specific, rigid definition. https://gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk/home/who-is-el...

If you missed the boat for the old scheme and are not eligible for the new, then I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Some counties have their own voucher schemes, although these are now fewer than before too.

A desktop quote doesn't really mean much. Once you've had a survey and confirmed pricing, even the simplest FTTPoD installs are coming in at over £8K+VAT these days. If there isn't any FTTP network nearby, your quote on survey could easily be double that or more.

You could consider setting up a Community Fibre Partnership if you can get other people in the village interested, as Openreach itself makes a contribution to such schemes. But don't underestimate the amount of work it will involve.

Ibstock, near Wallingford ? That is a telephonic abyss.

I’d imagine that was prime Gigaclear territory, right up their street

My Cerberus quote was a full survey, I paid the £250+vat for it.

Ah OK, got it thanks.

I'm sure you know it was valid for 30 days only, so there's no guarantee they would match it today.
