Need help please. They're installing full fibre today and..

[link to this post]

They're installing full fibre today and I had no idea. I was told it wouldn't be installed until 2022.

So what's the problem? I just signed up to switch from Zen to BT and it is to happen on the 13th. Can I still cancel the move and if I do will I still be able to get full fibre? It really is murphy's law.

It's likely it will take a few weeks to provision and light up any Full Fibre infastructure that Openreach are installing in the area, it would be best to smoothly move over to your new BT account and then discuss with them any upgrade to FTTP when it's live.

There's one more issue, but I took advantage of BTs option for unemployed people. (fttc for £15 month) Would this complicate matters even more? I don't mean payment wise, but upgrading to a fully fledged package.

You may lose the discount, however, BT will let you upgrade services provided to start a new contract with them

Strangely, BT are saying I should cancel the move and place an order for the full fibre instead?

If BT will let you then why not ... you may lose the discount or you may want tio try and persuade BT to limit you to 80/20 and pay just the low rate. Down to your negotiation skills.

If they are only just rolling it out then I don't believe you would be able to order FTTP with BT yet.

If you stick with BT's benefits package you can leave at anytime.
Even though it has a 12 month minimum term there are no early exit fees.
BT will also allow you to upgrade to full fibre at anytime.

BT's response to new orders for their BT Home Essentials is superb.
Orders can be placed online. Eligibility checks are done automatically and services are regraded the very next day.

I've helped 2 neighbours order this online. Both were on 160/30 FTTP and were both regraded to 80/20 within 24 hours of ordering.

Thanks John. I think that's what I'll do.

Keep checking the checker every day to see when it's available, though.

I've had [censored] internet for as long as I can remember. We got ADSL back in 2004, and when we eventually got FTTC we were so far from the cabinet it worked out not much faster. To finally be able to get real fibre is exciting. The pole is in my garden and there is now a yellow piece of metal on the pole that says 'Fibre overhead'. Can't believe it really, almost expecting something to go wrong. Digital scotland said we wouldn't get it until the end of 2022.

Don’t get too eager, they’ll end up blocking your IP. Check once a week. You won’t miss much.

Just register your interest (in full fibre) on the BT / Openreach checker website.
They will send you an e-mail.
I registered my interest, when dozens of Openreach vans started appearing all over town and specialist cable ducting contractors started digging up major road junctions (and along most of the main roads in & out of town).
Within a month or so; the e-mail arrived. I ordered the same evening and full fibre was installed, to my home, within a couple of weeks (it could have been earlier, but I didn't trust the new Smart Hub would arrive in time).

I ordered online (bt.com - signing into my account).
I was still within contract; but BT don't care about that (they just start you off on a new 24 month contract).
As it turns out, because I managed to get a decent discount last time (which was around 6 months away from ending); the transition to full fibre actually worked out cheaper than if I'd have started a new 24 month contract for FTTC (i,e, ended my current discount).
In the end; I think it was something like £6 more per month (and a straight FTTC renewal was showing up as being more expensive!).
