FTTP build and G-fast

[link to this post]

Does anyone know if a premises has native G-fast, will this mean a much lesser likelihood of being included in the local FTTP build as a matter of policy?

Or is it purely luck of the draw when the the area is being surveyed?

No it doesn't. For example, Tunbridge Wells has quite wide G.Fast coverage but is also having FTTP rolled out right now.

Same in my area, we have a lot of Gfast installed and the entire area is now being overbuilt.

Just for balance. Large parts of Oxford which have gfast are not on the FTTP rollout plan.

I think a lot of this will all depend on the funding models Openreach use.

If their rollout in an area is purely commercial and has no state funding they will look at the competitive landscape and the cannibalisation of their services by other ALTNETS, and build according to this. Whereas in areas where there is little competition, they will work out the cost of trading off the initial infrastructure costs for GFAST etc, and see if it has paid itself back.

Of course there are areas of G.Fast where there are no current plans for FTTP. The question was does the presence of G.Fast *always* preclude FTTP from being in the current plans, and the answer is, no it doesn't.
