Has anyone migrated their FTTP to Talktalk (resiential)?

[link to this post]

Has anyone been successful in migrating an existing FTTP service to Talktalk residential FTTP?

I've been trying to sign up to their 550/75 data only FTTP service.
They appear to be unable to migrate my existing BT FTTP service and instead want to order a whole new service which would mean a 2nd drop cable and 2nd ONT.

I've seen plenty other people migrate FTTP to their business packages but I can't recall anyone posting about doing so with their resiential packages.

I'm waiting on a call back from their full fibre team to see if I can manage to get them to put the order in correctly.
Failing that I may have to cease the BT FTTP and hope Talktalk are capable of activating the idle ONT.

As you might already know I tried to get a New FTTP connection with TTB (Business) but I'm not sure the full fibre team or others at TTB seem to know what they are doing.

They tell me there is no 'Cablelink' in the Fibre headend exchange, so can not supply and look else where, they do not seem to know much about it when I ask technical questions or do not seem to know if a cablelink is ever going to be installed.

I have given up with them.

There is not need to have another service installed, if you wanted you can have 4 different services running down the one fibre all they do is to change to a 4 port ONT.

TTB migrated here from a Cerberus service with literally 10 seconds of downtime last month. Can’t say for Resi. Sorry John.

There's no automatic process in place to get a 4 port Huawei ONT at present.

It's a 2nd drop wire and a 2nd 1 port ONT.

It's why the checker says

ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available. A new ONT may be ordered.

That is a complete and accurate answer. If TTB don't have a cablelink in the exchange, then they can't get traffic from the OLT onto their backhaul network. They correctly tell you that you will be able to get service from another provider. So I don't see the problem with that response. Obviously it's annoying for you that you can't get the cheap TTB deal, but they clearly *do* know what they're saying.

The old 4-port ONTs were withdrawn for new service several years ago. There was a rumour about a new 4-port device coming online soon: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2021/01/a-look...

But I've heard no examples of it appearing yet, and there are many reasons why it might have been delayed.

Ok so finally this resolved itself.
Talktalk have a somewhat slow, inefficient ordering process for "future fibre" (FTTP).

They take your order and give you a preliminary engineer appointment even if you don't need 1.
They then wait 48 hours before running a credit check.
They call you and do this with you over the phone. No idea why it can't be done at the time of ordering.
They then waited a further 3 days to submit the order to OpenReach during which time my ONT became visible to someone within Talktalk.
They then called me to confirm if I wanted to migrate or have a new service installed.
They finally contacted BT yesterday starting the 14 day migration process, which will now complete on 29th June.

The whole process was delayed further by their sales agent taking my details incorrectly, meaning the credit check initially failed and the order needed resubmitted.
I had to wait another 48 hours for them to call me and run the credit check again, which passed as expected.

A migration that should take 14 days will actually take 25 days if it goes smoothly from here.
If they hadn't made an error it would have been 23 days.
That's not brilliant but it could be worse.

Here's hoping I don't need their support much over the next 18 months!

Business wasn’t anywhere half as bad ordering. No engineer needed. Posted out a hub which is still sitting in its box. They did the FTTP takeover on the day nominated by me, seamless nothing really to do. All the other stuff was done in the background. Pretty smooth really. Now a few more months before the first bill arrives.
