How long is the low voltage cable on an Openreach ONT please?

The Nokia one installed here is about 1.5m - but if they change PSU brands it could be shorter though!

All those I have come across have been that too, 1.5 metres

Most places says 1.5m power lead. Now saying that really the ONT should have distance under 1m from mains power point to ONT. The reasion is that lead should be a little lose and the should not be pulled tightly. So by giving it a little give of at least 0.5m would be recommended.

Would need to double check if the barrel connector is 5.5mm/2.1mm on the ONT, but you get the idea.

Admittedly FTTP could be a way off yet, although Hawarden is now on OR's list and also on the Welsh Governments list for where they have put some money, so fingers crossed.

Ideally in due course I would prefer the fibre to be run through a 25mm conduit to the rear of our garage which is where the existing NTE5 is located together with my modem/router, but fear an engineer who has other ideas.

So am considering all future options.

Strangely was looking at our village halls BT Hub a few days ago and that had a PSU with quite a long cable, looked like 2 metres plus!

I have used dc plug/socket extension leads to power a remote 7 inch display and other items. Another option being passive POE. But either of these, passive POE, or indeed a 13A socket makes a refusal to use the conduit more likely.

With 4 bends they might want to pull it in two stages to avoid putting too much stress on the fibre; but given that these are inspection bends that can be opened, that should be OK. Also, the total length of 6m is pretty short. So I don't see any problem with them using it.

Running the fibre a short distance along the internal wall would be OK too.

It might be possible to terminate the conduit in a surface-mount pattress, and then they could mount the ONT on the front of that as they do in new-builds. I've seen pictures which show how that's done, but I don't have it handy, but I'm afraid I don't have the URL to hand.

Thanks for that. Would certainly work since I already have a surface-mount pattress on the end of the trunking, currently with the NTE5C mounted on it. http://ancient-mariner.co.uk/public/IMG_1629.JPG

I fitted the conduit prior to having our drop-wire replaced and re-positioned a couple of years ago.

If a copper pair needs to be retained, a NTE5 could sit next to the current pattress/new ONT.

If the ONT goes where the current NTE5 is, or to the left of it, I think a 1.5m DC cable from the spare socket will be fine. On my ONT, the DC entry point is on the bottom (but this is an older model)
