A new take on BTw availability, 330/50 moving to 1000/220

[link to this post]

Openreach have been around my area for the last six months on the Fibre Cities build.

Just to offer a contradictory data point, most people say they see the BTw database go to 1000/220 FTTPoD from 330/50 shortly before the network goes live.

In my case the network has been live for two weeks, Zen started selling 330/50 around then and I could also see A&A, who I presume use TTB wholesale.

BT Wholesale have been showing WBC FTTP 330/50 in 'Planned' status since the network went live for sale on Zen. As Zen's top speed was also 330/50 I was wondering if some ECI kit was in play.

Now TalkTalk retail are offering 550/75, so the ECI bullet has been dodged. But it goes to show that BT Wholesale are not always the first in the door.

Maybe they didn't have sufficient cablelink capacity at that exchange to be able to offer the higher speeds. BT Wholesale have to buy cablelinks just like everyone else.

Talktalk have their own backhaul network, and hence their own cablelinks.

In this case, BT Wholesale don't have any cablelinks - or there is a limiting factor upstream of there. FTTP has been available from other suppliers for two weeks, yet BTw can't even offer 40/10.

My point is that the database has updated to 'planned' and other providers are live, but the usual BTw checker step of FTTPoD moving to 1000/220 did not happen, even though the network is 1000/220 capable and will be once BTw's network is in place.
