Any way to know how Cityfibre will enter the premises

[link to this post]

I'm currently in the process of moving to a city that has CityFibre's network, and was planning on using it. I'm moving into some a room inside of a larger house, and was wondering if there was any way to check how the internet would get into the building.

There is zero way that I could have the front of the house dug up, I can at most have a single hole drilled through to have a fibre inserted in.

What I am wondering is, how do I know if the Fibre is going to come in through underground duct, or through poles on the street.

There were existing poles on the street that had cables running to the house, so is it fair to assume that CF will do the same?

In some areas CityFibre share OpenReach's ducts and poles.
In other areas they micro trench down the pavement, leaving a Toby outside each property.

If it's available to order and there's no recent trenching scars on the pavement then they will be using OpenReach's infrastructure.
So that's overhead via a pole or underground, depending on the current OpenReach feed.

Each area is different. You'll need to look at this specific property to find out.

Not necessarily, I've not long had it installed at a relatives and they had to run new ducting in the garden.

Thanks

I'm confused as to how the different methods are chosen. I live in a street with five houses on one side four on the other, all with frontage. The street below us all have a Toby on both sides of the street, even though new poles are in both areas, one at the end of each road. Yesterday they dug our street, BUT on one side only and are not doing the other side, ours of course. ( the lesser with four houses). When I asked they said we'd be able to use the pole, not even the new one, an older one opposite us. Does it make any difference, and why do they do this? It is annoying as we've been waiting 17 years to get anything better than basic telephone cable speed. i.e.less the 10 mb. All 9 houses have the same street frontage, but two were built in 2006 after the current supplier took over the underground cables. They are not willing to extend 20ft to the two new properties, clearly cost isn't worth it, so with Cityfibre digging up everywhere round here I thought at last we'd get the same as everyone else, but still it will be a pole. What speed will I be able to get from the pole, and as I said will it make any difference how it's supplied. Thanks and apologies as I know little about it, but would appreciate better than what we've currently got.

There is no difference to the service whether it's delivered by pole or UG feed - it's all the same network.

The key difference from a speed/performance difference from Openreach-based FTTP network to CityFibre based FTTP network is that the latter has symmetric FTTP service package offerings and will soon support XGS-PON. Whereas Openreach based ISP will have packages which have an asymmetric download/upload and will continue to use regular GPON for the foreseeable.

It can also be different in different streets in the same Area.

Around some streets here (Armthorpe, Doncaster), they've put Toby's in, but outside our house, they're using OR Poles.

Unfortunately not RFS yet, and I'm stuck in VM Contract until July '23 but will be moving as soon as I can to a CF ISP

Haydn
