First install

[link to this post]

Hi

Doing the fibre setup for the first time.

We have got an adva fsp 150 ge102pro modem end point as part of installation. I have a couple of questions;

1. I am thinking of getting a Vigor 3910 router and a DrayTek DAC-CX10 SFP Direct Attach Cable to connect 3910 to the adva fsp 150 ge102pro. Is that all the hardware setup I need?

2. How does the configuration work? Our reseller is not very organised. Do I just need to get a login from the reseller or is there any more info that I need?

Basically want to be fully prepared for the first install.

Thanks

Regards

Hi,

So the ADVA is the network termination equipment (NTE) from the tail circuit provider (e.g. like Openreach) for the leased line.

If your comms provider has not issued you with another separate router (their router) then you have a "wires only" service, so you will need to do the full access network configuration yourself on a capable router of your choosing. You may need to configure tagged VLANs on the WAN side connection - but your CP should be providing you all the details in advance.

If on the other hand you have purchased a fully managed service then your CP should be issuing you another router like a Juniper or a Cisco, that will sit between the ADVA and your own router. The CP is responsible for. the configuration of that router.

It sounds to me as if you have ordered a wires only service so you will need to configure your own router with any necessary VLAN tagging and the IPv4 and IPv6 addressing ranges/details that you have requested.

Openreach provisioned ADVAs will work with direct attached cables into the SFP, although it not officially recognised, but there's folks here who have done it. Otherwise you can actually request use of the copper gigabit port on the ADVA for up to and including a Gig on Gig service now.

If your unfamiliar with how to setup your router I suggest you schedule a call with someone from your CP customer provisioning team to have chat to discuss. Also when the circuit is ready to be commisoonmed on the day it cuts over schedule a call with them so that you can both be on the phone checking the configuration. With wires only services this really is helpful.

Good luck.
