Does this mean FTTP is imminent? Where do I check?

[link to this post]

Hello. Sorry if these questions are dumb.

We live on an estate that was built a few years ago. We have FTTC, but it's dog-slow because we're so far from the cabinet.

The builders have now returned to add to our estate and the houses that they are adding at the end of our street will all have FTTP. These houses are, by the looks of it, just a few weeks away from being moved in to. They are about 75m from my front door.

Last week some Openreach chaps were pushing cables through the drains in our street. I went out to talk to them and they confirmed that they were routing the FTTP for the new houses. They said that once that was connected then we could order it for our house but (understandably) they couldn't give a timeframe.

The thing that you punch your details into on the OR website and then it send you and email says 'Good News! Your area is in our plans for Ultrafast....' but there are no details on dates.

Is it likely that it will be soon? And where can I check on status, or do I just have to wait for an email from Openreach?

Keep checking the OpenReach site. It will eventually tell you it's live.
You can also check the BT Broadband Availability Checker.
It should show WBC FTTP as available when it can be ordered and may show "planned" prior to that.

There's no website that will give you any progress reports and as everything is new and underground there's unlikely to be any roadworks booked you can follow. The roadworks website is also very lacking in any detail now after recent changes.

Look out the window for any activity at your nearest OpenReach footway box/chamber.
Could be a few weeks or a few months.

Thank you.

The roadworks have been ongoing by OR for the last few weeks as they make their way up the main road. I haven't been paying full attention to how far they have got. There are certainly loads of OR vans around all the time.

Is it likely that I will be able to order it when it goes live for the new build houses? Or will they switch it on for them but not us for some reason?

Looking at that link, it says that WBC FTTP is 'available' but then at the bottom it says 'fttp is not available'. I am confused.

Edit: no I was looking at FTTC. Sorry.

Can you post an (address anonymised) screenshot of the output from the wholesale checker?

Edit: scratch that, given your update

ti would take the comments They said that once that was connected then we could order it for our house but (understandably) they couldn't give a timeframe. - with a pinch of salt -- if they enabling the new plots -- and this is brand new (then that is all they will do) it is quite likley they will not do any of the existing plots , and you will be left as you are

I suspect that is a typo . . . hopefully you meant to type ducts, not drains. smile

Near me there was a new development built 3 years ago on disused farmland at the end of a road and OR only provided FTTP only to those new properties. A few months ago they started building to the existing properties in the area.
