FTTP Available on Openreach site but not BT?

[link to this post]

Hi all

According to the openreach website, FTTP is available at my address but I cant get it according to the BT website its not, the BT wholesale website doesnt even show it as a FTTP priority exchange.

I did get a email around 6 weeks ago from BT saying it was available but upon calling it was apparently sent in error, but they could see 'something is happening' in the area and but not available at the time.

I can order through Sky but not BT? Im not sure if this is just a Openreach error and I cannot get it yet or BT not updating records yet. I havent seen any sort of roadworks in the area by Openreach, everything in the area is underground but I assume I would have noticed some movement?

I've checked the local addresses and it appears its just my road and another that have it showing as available on openreach website, the main road ours comes off is not showing as available.

On a side note, we do have City Fibre building in the area and they were working on our road about 6 weeks ago, fitting a small cabinet but not going down the entire road fitting the tobi boxes. This was the same for the other road I mentioned which is now also showing as available from Openreach, not sure if this may be connected?

Thanks

BT may not have cablelink capacity at your headend exchange, or insufficient backhaul capacity, or may simply not have updated their systems.

Therefore it's possible that some other ISP is able to connect you, before BT is able to connect you. (It's also not impossible that there's an error in the Openreach database)

If you don't want to wait for BT, you can try placing an order with Sky. You can also check other FTTP-aware ISPs (Talktalk, Zen, Aquiss etc)

However, you can be sure there is absolutely no connection between Openreach showing FTTP available, and any work Cityfibre are doing.

the BT wholesale website doesnt even show it as a FTTP priority exchange.

Fibre priority in this context means that where FTTP is available it shall be the only product available to order - this was later watered down to allow 40/10 to remain as an FTTC option.

Openreach finished their work where I am at the start of August, service is available via Zen, Talktalk and Sky, but still no BTw.

Thanks for the info

Unfortunately stuck with a contract with BT until August next year or would have jumped ship! By which time I suppose City Fibre would also be available, do you have any thoughts on which would bet better or is it generally up in the air and dependent on ISP?

Several things to consider:

* Cityfibre resellers will usually give you symmetric service, e.g. 300/300 instead of 300/50.
* Some ISPs charge less when delivering over Cityfibre than Openreach (I think Zen do this)
* You'll get a much smaller choice of ISPs on Cityfibre than Openreach. The choice varies from area to area, based on network connectivity and commercial arrangements, but the most likely ones to service you over Cityfibre are Talktalk, Zen or (dare I say it) Vodafone.

Post your postcode and you may get some more info.

Also check the OR site and see what they say this will confirm OR FTTP is available at your address.
