FTTC Providers with a 40/10 or 55/10 speed option?

[link to this post]

I do not want the basic 40/2 speed (upload too slow) but think 80/20 is overkill does anyone have a list of providers that offer either the 40/10 or 55/10 option I have heard mentioned over the years?

Thanks

Very few offer 55/10 now.

Even many of the providers that have a choice of packages only offer 40/10 or 80/20.

In fact some providers like Sky don't sell any particular package. They put you on the package that matches your lines estimates.
Some providers put everyone on 80/20.

You would be severely limiting your choice of provider if you were only interested in the 55/10 product.
The price difference between that and 80/20 (which almost everyone sells) is usually very small.

Fortunately few providers provision on 40/2 either with 40/10 being the lowest option for most.

That's interesting, a community centre I work with has just had its broadband switched from Talk Talk to Vodafone and the modem is now syncing at 55/10 instead of the previous 80/20. This has to be a mistake (Openreach? The line changed its phone number too, the previous number is now "virtual") and we are trying to get it fixed, but I didn't know Vodafone did 55/10.

Thanks the main problem is no one seems to say what the upload speed is.

Basically any package with the 10 upload option is what I am after it can be either 40 or 55 download.

I can't even find prices on some sites without being forced to enter personal details.

Madness it has got to the point where you can't even find out what you are purchasing.

Unless I am missing something even ThinkBroadband's provider list doesn't seem to include upload speeds.

Edit: just found that the provider list does list upload speed if you click on each line - why isn't it in the summary table. Why is everything download oriented!

Such a list would contain nearly all providers wink.

AIUI BT Consumer/SOHO provide either 55/10 or 80/20 on FTTC. (Plus faster on G.Fast and FTTP).

The difficulty would be in finding a provider that does provide 40/2, though I think I have seen one recently.

Maybe your best bet is to ask here about any provider(s) you are seriously considering smile.

Thanks for ideas. I have given up. I can't easy find these details a vast majority are all locked behind having to provide address/phone number details.

If I see an appropriate 40/55 offer I will have to check the upload speed before signing up.

There doesn't seem to be a massive difference between 80/20 and 55/40/2 anyway which is probably by design you may as well just get the fastest for the sake of £2/3 per month on the more budget providers.

Plusnet used to sell 40/2 for their 40M product about 6 years ago, but 3 or 4 years ago they changed it back to 40/10.

The wholesale prices of both are identical, so there's no reason for anyone to offer the crippled upload any more.

Aquiss even sold a 40/2 FTTP for a while. They've dropped it now.

In reply to a post by pluralist:

BT Fibre Essentials is only 40/10.

BT Fibre 1 is 55/10 for most however they often provision it as 40/10 for anyone with lower estimates. This results in a few users on Fibre 1 hitting a 39,999 cap and requiring them to contact BT to have the product changed.

BT Fibre 2 is 80/20
