Openreach FTTP Installation Query

[link to this post]

I’m having my new FTTP installed next Wednesday and I have a couple questions about it i hope people here can answer. On the DSL Checker it says Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:-Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed potential Line of sight problems. FTTP is available and a new ONT may be ordered. What does the sight problems mean? My telephone pole has got some trees in the way so that may be the reason. My second question is that my telephone pole in half way in my hedge so would they have to cut through it. it’s not a thick hedge so I hope they wouldn’t have to. My final question is that does the outdoor grey Openreach box on my house have to be by my master socket as it’s in a bad place and we use the extension socket instead.

Line of sight means, as you suggest, that there may be issues with trees in the way.
You’ll just have to wait and see what the installer says on the day.

If the base of the DP pole is buried in a hedge, then a hoist my be required to access the pole top, as no safety check can be made at the bottom.

Conversely, if they do need a hoist, then that might help if there’s branches in the way of the span.

The grey demarcation box/customer splice point doesn’t dictate where the ONT goes. The fibre from the ONT will be run back to this box.

As long as your proposed ONT location is reasonable, with a clear run back out, you should be OK.

Can I just please also ask, does the fibre have to enter the house at the same point or can it be run along the outside wall (Around one corner) and then into the house (Probably no more than 10 metres at most)?

Like the OP our current box isn't in a great location at all for adding the ONT adjacent to it, the only difference is ours is fed underground.

Right now the line enters the house about 8ish meters away from the point and is run downstairs to the main room around a corner

The wire for the pole comes from underground as it doesn’t link to any other poles overhead. That’s the pole

For my install the fibre was run from the CSP at the front round to the back of the house where I wanted the ONT installed in the living room. It was about a 12 metres.
