Request to anyone in a planned cityfibre area.

[link to this post]

Can you please check the cityfibre checker and report if it still says planned or the now generic we will contact you with any news?

For most of my city it no longer says planned and their work has stopped.

The checker is here.

Thanks, I get the second now. It used to say planned.

Interesting to see they have changed the message though, I got hopeful when I read your reply but it definitely is the second one. frown

Same with other city postcodes I checked as well.

How do you know which phase you in? Are Cityfibre rollouts always city wide?

Just remembering, I thought it used to say "planned" too. Either false memory syndrome or its now more generic even for areas they are rolling out in. Maybe so they can change their mind later...

"We'll soon start building our Full Fibre network in your area."

They are currently working in my street at the moment. They damaged a gas pipe yesterday haha.

EDIT: I'm in phase 1 it appears, Eastbourne.

Try this instead:

https://bidb.msh100.uk/

It pulls from their API, and gets better data then they now display on their website apparently.

Wow, that's a useful site I didn't know about. It even covers Lightning Fibre's status (current or planned roadworks at least, a local altnet ISP) when I enter the postcode. Thanks for sharing!

I also see that it includes 'one network' roadworks data (if you inspect the API response) which includes the work description, which is nice for those who are curious as to what the current nearby roadworks are about.

Thanks nemeth782 for that link, it's very informative.

Sadly it shows my street like an island in the middle of a big CityFibre cabling area, no green lines, no build planned.

However I filled in the enquiry for CityFibre, but got back a "thanks but no plans" message.

As we're all on EO lines there's no chance of FTTC. Openreach have already said no plans for FTTP.
I've got a Virgin cabinet right outside my window, and have been avoiding that for years. But it would be the only hope of getting anything faster.

Thanks

Virgin Media speeds up to 1000 Mbps
CityFibre is planned
Gigaclear is unplanned
OFNL is unplanned
Truespeed is unplanned
Jurassic Fibre is unplanned
Openreach FTTP is not live

I checked cityfibre website again as well and I can only apologise, it is the new planned message without the not planned bit tacked on.

This "better internet dashboard" is a nice site.

Also the green lines where is shows live cityfibre, is on my street (something I already believed to be true as I can order business cityfibre with free install, but this seems to be proof), I expect those lines are for the existing business service? as they dont show in the areas that have consumer cityfibre services.

For people with no green lines I wouldnt use that as an indicator of where they going next, I was told by a cityfibre person at least one year, and most of the Leicester areas covered by consumer cityfibre have no green lines on this map.

Openreach not live, is planned but not yet done or also unplanned? my city isnt in their public plans.

Are you sure the lines on the map don't mean the roadworks? I have a line in my street for Cityfibre and it appears to be related to the current/planned roadworks listed on one.network for Cityfibre. They aren't live yet. I assumed the lines on the map were indicative of current/planned roadworks.

Roadworks was my reading of this too, the lines are not showing existing service. Lines in my area correspond directly with the Scottish Road Works website info.

Definitely not current roadworks wink

However if they suddenly start doing roadworks here, I will report back in this thread to satisfy your theory.

Update, I just checked the website again and the index says the green lines are roadwork providers, which makes things interesting. Also I see the one network does show city fibre road works in the streets very close to me, not my street though. So this has all changed very recently, nice. However is no roadworks on my actual street.

Also I have an update as to the checker mix up.

My address is listed twice on cityfibre's checker, with and without the flat. Without the flat it says not planned, with the flat it says planned.

As much as its a lovely clean, dark-mode UI and the network logos are v.pretty...there's no legend or key to be seen anywhere. Perhaps there's an implied meaning the lines do match with One Network streetworks. Dots for VM are I think postcode centres for served areas rather than cabinet locations

I do wonder who's behind it.

That's correct, planned roadworks are shown. Plenty of green lines near me but no sign on the ground. But roadworks website say they'll be around in the new year.

Hah, I've just looked at the map for Leicester as I can see the cables being installed everywhere around my estate (Bradgate Heights) which has been totally skipped! I don't get it, why completely avoid my estate??

Cityfibre has a policy they wont install without landlord permission (no idea why this is required when DSL and cable have no such barrier, law clearly needs amending if its law).

From what I can tell, if a street is mainly freehold housing with the odd rented property they will still do the works, but require written permission to install in leasehold or rented properties.

However if an entire street is rented "and" they dont have permission I believe they might skip it. One of the postcodes I checked which actually does say "not planned" the entire street is flats.

There is articles online where cityfibre have made deals with social landlords e.g.

I would contact your estate landlord, and cityfibre also have an email address for landlord related queries landlord@ their domain.

For me the date is 3rd week of November, I can only see 2 weeks in the future as well as I am browsing one network as guest. Although this is for streets not immediately close to me (2-3 streets away), I think when they get closer they further ahead after the one networks cut off point.

When I tried a postcode on the actual street, it still says planned status, not currently been built, So realistically its probably going to be 2022, but does at least look it will be early 2022 now.

I just registered on one network to see up to 12 months, however no new icons appear for city fibre past 2 weeks, however one new one appeared today for my actual street on 25 November (its a bit further down the road though). Since I live on a main road I am not sure how this will be done, the part of my road that can order cityfibre never had works done.
