Are Openreach supposed to leave the old copper wire?

[link to this post]

When I ordered FTTP they asked if I needed a phone line, I said no get rid of it all. They told me it would be disconnected. On the BT site I clearly don't have a phone package, so that is fine, but he's left the wire coming from the pole and the wiring still goes around the house. Would have been nice to get rid of it...is it normal for it to remain?

Speaking of which does it matter that my fibre cable from the pole is all wonky and not straight? The neighbour had his done yesterday and it's very clean and straight wire while mines looks... honestly it looks bad.

They would be expected to leave the copper wire in situ.

That's fine then although it's a bit unsightly having two cables coming from the pole now. I'm just moaning I suppose as it's nowhere as neat as I had hoped. (OCD [censored])

I’d be interested to see a photo of the ‘unsightly’ cable.

There was, a while back, a batch of 150m O/H hybrid that would look ‘curly’ if not pulled very tight. But if you’ve had hybrid put up, why leave the copper span ??

That can be arranged, although not now as it's too dark out. Are you alright with me PMing you the pictures tomorrow as I'd rather not have them in public.

But yeah it is quite curly.

I had my fibre put in a couple of months ago and the Openreach guy used the old copper line to pull the fibre from the pole, so I no longer have copper. Depends on who you get and how they do it but they will be responsible for years to come if they leave it.

Damn. Guess I got unlucky then. He ran the fibre along the wall next to the copper... it doesn't make much sense to me. The wall looks a mess with all the cables. I don't suppose there's much I can do though.

Still not taken pictures yet not been feeling too well today.

If you contact Openreach and tell them it is a redundant cable they may remove it - although it says its chargeable I found they were quite flexible with an O/H cable which was no longer needed.

Do you know how much they charge? I don't mind paying to get rid of it if I have to. Depending on the price of course.
