700mbps Minimum Speed Guarantee BT FTTP 900/110 new install.

[link to this post]

Minimum Speed Guarantee (MSG) is 700Mbps for a new 900/110 FTTP residential install as opposed to the usual 450Mbps.
Is this related to new Nokia 10Gbps PON deployment?

Nope. There is no new Nokia 10G PON / XGS-PON being deployed. It's all still GPON.
Apart from a single trial that's now over I'm not aware of any XGS-PON deployed by Openreach.

Openreach's minimum committed rate to BT remains the same.
If BT are increasing their minimum speed guarantee to customers then they are doing off their own back.

Although there is a 10 Gbps Cablelink connecting the ISP / CP backhaul to the OLT/L2S equipment in the serving exchange for FTTP this should not be confused with XGS-PON deployment...

The Nokia (as indeed Adtran and Huawei but not the older ECI) OLT gear is all XGS-PON capable (with the right line cards and optics) - but as John has noted Openreach have definitely not commercially deployed XGS-PON at all.

The existing GEA-FTTP service description in SIN 506 from Openreach has not materially altered, including downstream and upstream prioritised bandwidths.

Openreach could upgrade the network at some point in the future - possibly beyond XGS-PON - but for the here and now this has nothing to do with any minimum speed guarantees being raised by BT...

Really wish I could get 700Mbps on most things. I can't tell if there's something wrong with my install or if it's just highly variable depending on server. The closest I can get to saturating my connection is on bittorrent. Xbox Game Pass PC I'm very lucky if I get 500mbps. One thing I noticed even when I use something like bittorrent that is generally good at saturating a connection, is that there is still massive drops. 800mbps then drops to 200...then back to 800 and it keeps doing that over and over again.

Everything is wired. 2.5g ethernet on my PC, cat6 cables. I'd upgrade the router from the BT one to something better if it was possibly the issue. I've been thinking about doing this anyway, but not in a rush to spend more money.

Yeah, they must have raised them, I've just been able to order FTTP and gone for 500/75 and they quoted a 425Mbps guarantee. A couple of weeks for an appointment, so will see what speeds are like then.
