FTTP Status pages and outage information

[link to this post]

Not so long ago, if I had a problem with my FTTC connection, I could type my phone number in on ISP website, and I could get info back if there was fault/outage affecting my line, or I could search a status page for my area code etc.

If I have a problem with my electricity supply, I can go to the electricity supplier website, type my postcode in and get info about electrical outages that may be affecting my area.

With my new FTTP connection, is there anywhere I can go that is similar? As the FTTP connection does not have a phone number, I assume the search would have to be by postcode rather than phone number area code. I believe the area code (exchange) my FTTC went to is a different exchange that my FTTP connection goes to, so phone number search would make no sense for FTTP outrages I guess?

Is this info available to just ISP, and not public. unless ISP have developed something to present to their customers?

Which provider is it?

With BT they just check your line based on your account. Sign in and go to the terrible shooting page and run the checks.

With the Zen service status checker it checks the area code you enter. So you would simply enter your area code as before (even if you have no phone number).

A number shouldn't be required to check for a fault or outage.

Zen.

Do I put the area code for the exchange my FTTC is connected to, or the area code I think I think my FTTP is connected to? I'm pretty sure its a different exchange, as my local exchange is due to close in 2025, and I wouldn't have thought it would been enabled for FTTP if its closing.

A fault could be anywhere between your home and the Head-End.

The exact same issue occurs with FTTC. When you enter your number it is using the area code of the number, which will be your local exchange, even though the FTTC terminates at the Head-End exchange.
The Zen checker doesn't actually check your number but uses the initial 4 or 5 digits only.

So just use your local area code. If that works for FTTC then it will work for FTTP.

Thanks, I understand what you are saying, makes sense assuming copper and fibre go to same exchange. However, my FTTC area code is totally different than the area code of exchange my FTTP is connected to, its only the 01 at beginning that's same. Hence my question, as it doesn't make sense (to me) to use a phone number/area code.

My point was that although your copper voice line goes to the local exchange, the fibre from your FTTC cabinet goes to the same exchange as the FTTP does. The voice and broadband will go to completely different exchanges.

A lot of people don't realise that the FTTC cabinets link back to the local Head-End exchange while the copper still goes to the local copper exchange.

In my case the local copper exchange is also the Head-End.

If the system is clever enough at the moment to track a fault based on your phone number for FTTC then it will also work for FTTP.
You could simply check both area codes to be on the safe side.

Yep, all makes perfect sense that all fibres (FTTP &FTTC) go to headend exchange, as local exchange is due for closure in 2025.

I did try both area codes on zen status, local exchange says no planned maintenance in next 7 days. Headend exchange has planned maintenance affecting area code of the headend exchange, but obviously does not show local exchange area code. Maybe its clever, maybe its not, but I still not convinced there is an easy way for me as a consumer to figure out any planned works may affect me or how to search known outages for my FTTP line that has possibly 2 very different area codes. I do have a BBEU circuit reference, but have found nowhere to use it other than BT wholesale speedtest.
