DLM on a newly provisioned line with no router?

[link to this post]

Hi All,

Can't seem to get an answer for this one. I know with any new FTTC product, DLM will always try and kick in 24-48 hours after a line has just been activated, but my question is, I am about to move into a empty property and the move has been delayed my a week.
As the property is empty, and the line can still be activated remotely by Openreach, I am thinking of just keeping the activation day a week or so prior to moving in

Would this have any effect on how DLM manages the line, as there will be no router to take the statistics from? What I don't want is it to think my line is unstable.
I wouldn't have thought so as from my knowledge DLM only kicks in after it detects constant disconnections - but in this case, a connection would have not even been made yet

It makes no difference.
The DLM no longer puts lines on an open profile for the 1st 24-48 hours.

When it did do this the time started on 1st sync, not when Openreach activate the service anyway.

DLM needs an active device on the line to do its work. So, if a router was connected and the line was really stable then DLM would potentially start decreasing the SNR to increase speeds. If it was unstable then it would increase SNR to stabilise. But, if there isn't a router actively connected then it has nothing to work with.

I think the OP is worried that DLM may work differently in the first ten days after activation, and become more "sticky" after that.

I think it's unlikely to be a problem, as DLM won't have any value to "stick" with until the first connection is made.

If it is, it will be shown by the "actual" speed being much lower than the "attainable" speed in the modem stats. The worst case is that the OP will need to ask for a DLM reset (which *should* be easier to get these days, depending on which ISP you use). But I don't think it's worth worrying about at this stage.

DLM is always on even on first day of activation. It's will monitoring the line at all times!
