Fibre Outside House

[link to this post]

We have four fibre T connectors in the junction box outside our house - 1 metre from front gate. This was provided under the R100 program in Scotland.

We currently don't have a landline (FTTC was <5Mbps) and use mobile 4G.

Morrisons were doing an inspection on it today. Openreach tell me there's no plans for fibre in the are but the Morrisons engineer said if it wasn't already active it would only be days away.

How do I find out what services I can get?

Maybe the infrastructure hasn't gone live yet as it looks very new.

Do a daily check on the DSL Checker

I would suggest asking the R100 programme.

How many immediate neighbours (that would be served from that footway chamber) do you have?

By the way that final distribution node is called a CBT (connectorised block terminal).

Typically 4 port CBTs like that one are deployed in more sparsely populated / rural areas and 8 and 12 port units are deployed in more dense urban settings.

There's about 10 houses in total where I live.

It my not have gone live yet, I've no landline and the URL to the availability checker in the URL that you give doesn't list my house (UPRN checker is available either).

R100 direct me to Openreach who tell me there are no plans for fibre in my area.

Any idea what services I can expect?

If your properties are reasonably spread out, then it’s probable they are served by other similar chambers closer to their properties. But as it stands that CBT would only be able to serve you and your 3 nearest neighbours.

Timing wise, the placement of CBTs and the subsequent completion of the network and it being ready for service vary massively. Some are ready in days/weeks and others unfortunately can take 12 months or longer.

As said if this is done under the auspices of R100 then they should be able to give you an indication of likely ready for service dates. The Openreach and BT wholesale online checkers are very blunt tools and really only give a yes or no indication of availability and no indication of timeline. The Openreach project manager working with the R100 programme would have the most detailed knowledge, but your best route in would be via the R100 folks.

I'll double check with R100.

My lack of landline hinders my online search.
My Royal Mail lookup address also does not list my road, rather uses my village name and lists my "town" as being one which is 11 miles away.
