Existing FTTP installation external cable relocation by BT

[link to this post]

I have a full fibre (FTTP) install to my home via a drop wire from a telegraph pole. Drop cable is currently a hybrid fibre/copper pair. This was installed in January 2021.

I am dissatisfied with the routing of the cabling from the pole - basically currently runs from top left eaves, down to front porch roof level and then across the face of my home (about 15 ft) before disappearing into an alcove and thence down the right hand side of my home at ground level. The ONT is located in a room accessed from a door part way down the right hand side of my property.

My preferred installation route is to eaves top right front, along soffits on right hand side (not front) before dropping vertically to room containing ONT.

At the time of the original installation my preferred installation location was said to warrant the attendance of a specialist BT “flat roof” team, so first sttempt was a no go, the second appointment a month later a no show and the third (yet another month later) just a “bog standard BT bod (no offence intended!) turned up - no sign of the flat roof team (do they exist?)

Against my better judgment I was persuaded to accept what I now consider an unsightly installation which given my porch is shortly to undergo renovations I wish to rectify.

I have spoken to Zen who advise that they will attempt a relocate ONT booking with Openreach (obviously chargeable), but they inferred that Openreach were a law unto themselves and are likely to choose the easiest option (not necessarily what I want) As an aside the actual ONT does not need relocating, just the cabling to it!

Obviously I wish to make (re) installation as straight forward as possible for the poor engineer and would like to install some cylindrical electrical trunking at the junction of my homes side wall/soffits to allow for a neat easy routing (no nailing of cable clips to brick required!)

As my home is to be re-roofed they may be able to utilise the scaffolding erected for that purpose

Before doing this, my question (if there are any BT engineers out there) is this routing permitted (as in fibre optic cable within plastic pipe trunking).

Cheers

Where is the customer splice point (CSP) box located? From the sound of it they may need to run a new aerial drop cable to the CSP - rather than running a fresh inside/out cable from the CSP to the ONT location, which is what they may have to do with an ONT Shift.

The engineer on the day may do this as an ONT Shift job or it may need to be booked as something else - perhaps as a Premium Installation??

As to the routing - as long as the conduits are secure and have draws inside, with gentle bends around any corners then they should be happy to use them. I don't know what Openreach policy is on using third-party scaffolding. Again the engineer may take a pragmatic view if they feel safer and it means their ladders can stay on the truck they will use them

If that was my house the drop wire would get damaged during building works, you then report your fibre internet does not work to your isp, they sent BT Openreach out , they find a damaged cable then you get the tea and biscuits ready and ask the BT chap to re route the fibre cable, BT chap does the job.
No Charge smile

Beg borrow or steal a fusion splicer; re-jig the routing and re-make the fibre joint yourself?

We are seeing some pretty awful fibre installs as the pressure is put on the linesmen to get-the-job-done-and-move-on-to-the-next. Aesthetics out of the window for the sake of finishing five minutes earlier.

Whereabouts are you? Maybe someone here with a splicer is local to you, and will tidy things up for modest disbursement? Your daughter's hand in marriage, perhaps? Is she blond or brunette? Asking for a friend.
