A number of Alt-Nets are members of INCA (Independent Networks Cooperative Association) https://www.inca.coop/membership/current-members and there was a story on ispreview a few weeks ago that may be of interest.
https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2022/01/altern...

INCA are working on implementing Ofcom's One Touch Service process from next year that will allow easier switching between ISPs.

This "could" mean that in the future you may be able to buy a sevice from Lit Fibre or maybe even a bigger ISP like Sky over Lightspeed's fibre.

If you check a postcode that has multple fibre providers on Ofcom's site, you can see which area a specific provider has wholesale'd their service.

Those are two different things.

The "one touch" service is a process for smoother switching - meaning you can place an order with ISP 2 and they will do the installation and cancel the service from ISP 1 on the same day.

That's not the same as ISP 2 providing service over ISP 1's network - which is "wholesaling" as you say.

Cityfibre are the biggest wholesale Altnet, providing service from several large ISPs including Vodafone, Talktalk and Zen. Gigaclear do both retail and wholesale, although with only a very limited selection of ISPs, mostly business-focussed ones.

"One touch" will allow you to migrate from a service on Openreach to a service on Virgin or Cityfibre. Your new service will still come down a completely different cable.

If they manage to get one touch working smoothly across the diversity of networks and providers it will be a major achievement in itself. 😉

Ah yes, maybe the phrasing is wrong, I have spoken to someone recently, and the plan is for the OTS will be used by the alt-nets via a wholesaling platform.
As we know there's loads of them, but many aren't big on their own, but by working together they can make something happen, otherwise we're going to end up with even more islands of different FTTP services all over the country.

The thing that comes to mind is a "common wholesale platform" but all I can find at the moment is a story back from 2020, which seems like 10 years ago smile

Yes, there was a separate idea for that. It hasn't come to anything as far as I know. The geographic dispersion of the altnets, and their incompatible networks and provisioning platforms, makes this very hard.

One touch switching is completely separate, has been mandated by Ofcom and is going ahead. It only affects the provisioning and cease flow and is completely independent from the underlying networks.
