FTTP - what happens to the existing drop wire?

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm due to have an Openreach engineer attend on Thursday to provide FTTP. Currently I have a pole-fed copper connection and it's going to be replaced by a pole-fed fibre connection. My question is, do they leave the existing copper drop wire in place or do they remove that one before connecting the fibre cable?

Thanks
Matt

They may choose to replace the existing dropwire with a "hybrid" cable that carries both fibre and a copper pair.

The engineer used the old copper as a draw wire for the fibre. Have no copper at all now, or physical phone. We went VOIP years ago and have a line on AA that is hardly ever used now, most people call our mobiles. Happy to say the new line works as advertised, it's the websites that are slow now smile
