The list is not comprehensive. Here in Rushden there has been a frenzy of fibre installation since the start of this year but the town and exchange aren't mentioned in the list although FTTP is now available across the area.
|
|
|
|
Openreach do explicitly state:
The above table contains a list of Openreach's FTTP locations within our current Fibre First Towns, Cities and Boroughs Build Programme as well as Market towns and villages build Programmes.
It does not show FTTP deployment related to BDUK, new sites/retro new-sites and other smaller scale programmes or infill.

Openreach once again left out my exchange Cuckoo Oak. Will never get FTTP for rest of my lifetime now. I get used to it now.

Does anybody know what they mean by 21/22 - 23/24.
Is that Financial Years? So if my exchange is in that column, can I expect it to be complete no later than March 2024?

Don't you have a solid 40/10 FTTC sync which is fast enough for your needs? You're not missing out by not having FTTP.

You've misremembered. Cuckoo Oak is to stay on copper & PSTN as a living 'heritage exchange'. Some lines are to be moved over onto a retrofitted Strowger exchange switch, currently held in preservation by BT Group.
Prestel is going to be offered again, but DSL services will remain overlaid on the old network so the government's USO can still be met.
The Rotary Telephone Club is hopeful that many of those who'll be connected to a Strowger exchange switch will take advantage of the opportunity to (re-)acquire a rotary telephone.and enjoy a calmer pace of communications in Cuckoo Oak.

You omitted to mention the return to the use of acoustic couplers

Nothing better than a Strowger exchange in action, Max doesn't know how lucky he is.

It would be better than the Crossbar (TXK1) that was there until replaced in the1990s .

Openreach keeps putting a post on facebook that they have updated the network in our area, yes, a tiny bit in the centre and one road., according to the list they will complete in 2026, Bloated toad useless once again. By that time Zzoomm will be well established and most people who want FTTP will already have it as long as Zzoomm can cope and offer a good service, which don't seem to be happening at the moment.

Nothing better than an FTTP bubble / rush by the AltNets to spurn an incumbent into action!

Sounds like the BBC, Never bothered with a local radio station here until someone else started one up, all those years ago,
It comes down to quality of service for the price, if Zzoomm sorts things out and get a good service, I can't see people changing from it, unless they get something for a lot less money, certainly after the hassle of having it installed. Openreach is a bit easier to haver installed, so I have heard, as it comes from overhead, so no digging.

You've heard wrong, Openreach will deliver as they wish, underground through existing ducts or overhead from poles. If there are no ducts and no poles in the area some digging will be needed and it could get messy.

Hopefully this holds true.
I notice locally in the surrounding streets and particularly the main drag up from town Avonline Networks are out in force - I believe Virgin are starting to build out locally so hopefully this might put a bomb under Openreach and BT.
I can't wait to be amongst the first (if not the first) to get FTTH locally. I know I was first in the village for fibre.

My exchange went on in the last list and OR are working all over the town. The main road near me is live, and my road is about to go live (live = open for orders).
So the moment an exchange goes on the list they've already prepped and it's just a matter of getting the jobs done.

It's pretty stupid as never understand why Openreach think Cuckoo Oak area isn't enough funding to build FTTP? I guess there are 90% of virgin media customers.

No: that would be a good reason *for* building FTTP. Stealing customers away from Virgin and back to Openreach means a very positive return on investment.
It's not a question of "enough funding". It's simply a question of not being able to do everywhere at once. Despite all these announcements you read, right now still only 1/5th of the country has FTTP: therefore there's a 4 in 5 chance that you won't have it.
I only have it because I paid for FTTPoD.
So in short: be patient. Come December 2026 the figures will be flipped: 4 in 5 will have FTTP, and 1 in 5 won't. Anyone in a town or a city will be very likely to have it, rural areas less so.

It'll probably go in the next tranche or three Max, have faith.

Interesting: a new version for May has just been published.
