Swapping PPPOE locations

It probably sounds like an odd request, but I have a couple of sites, each with an Openreach-based FTTP service and a wholesale provider.

Do you know if it's possible for me to switch the PPPOE username/passwords between the sites if I want to switch main/satellite location?

One has a higher speed service than the other and I'd like to swap them over and wondered if it could be as simple as changing over the credentials, or are the logins locked to a specific FTTP circuit?

Swapping around PPPoE credentials will probably work depending on the ISP…

However for certain it will not alter the FTTP bandwidth/speed profile that is provisioned to the individual FTTP connection. That is “baked in” at another level irrespective of the PPPoE credentials used to access the underlying service with your ISP.

Indeed: the speed is controlled by the line profile configured by Openreach on the OLT, which controls traffic between that OLT and ONT. You need to phone up your ISP(s), order an upgrade at one site, and a downgrade at the other site.

Also it's not a given that ISPs are using the PPPoE details you supply them. Openreach GEA services have other ways of inserting subscriber information into the packets moving between you and the ISPs equipment.

But as said above, the best you can hope for is the IP addresses move between sites. My recommendation would be to just upgrade the slower site - the cost differences between different FTTP tiers from business broadband providers are not huge.
