FTTP Migration

[link to this post]

I remember the rule on FTTC was 'never cancel' your broadband, as it generally meant a cease.

What is the process with FTTP?

I am getting ready to give Sky 30 days notice on my TV and will be moving the FTTP over to Pulse8.

Do I need to give notice on the broadband too or just place the order with Pulse8 and let them deal with it?

Depends.

If the Pulse8 FTTP service comes without voice, then you can just order it separately, wait for it to go live, check you're happy it's working, and then manually cease the Sky FTTC. I wouldn't give notice to Sky, or you risk being without connectivity if the FTTP is delayed.

If the Pulse8 service comes with voice, and you decide to port your existing phone number, then the number port will automatically cease the Sky service. Definitely *don't* give notice to Sky in this case, because it could prevent the number being migrated and you may lose it entirely.

Personally I'd do the following:
- order the FTTP (without voice)
- wait for it to go live
- migrate your phone number to a third-party VOIP provider

This last step will cease your FTTC line, and then your voice number is completely independent of broadband for the rest of your life.

Sorry I haven't made myself clear @candlerb, I am currently on Sky FTTP not FTTC.

No interest in voice or VOIP. I don't have a home phone.

Ah right. Then you just tell the new provider that you're migrating an existing FTTP service at the property (i.e. you don't want a second FTTP line installing) and they'll take care of it.

Just order your new FTTP service, Pulse8 will take care of everything for you. You dont need to tell sky as long as you are out of contract.
