Lightspeed & Fibre Me - Related?

[link to this post]

Over the past few weeks i've noticed these going up telegraph poles around my end of town

(The missing top screw doesn't inspire confidence laugh)

There wasn't anything on one.network about them before hand. I've just noticed that across town next week is a load of planned work located where there are poles, being carried out by Fibre Me Limited. I just wondered if this is work could be linked to Lightspeed as Fibre Me don't appear to have any website. Parent company maybe?

According to CH, Fibre Me changed their name to Upp (full name Upp Corporation Limited) on 1 June 2021. You can find their website here.

Not sure what their relationship is with Lightspeed though...

I'll probably take a drive across town over the next few days to see if they putting their own stuff up or if they're using these Lightspeed brackets

It could be an over-build scenario, where they’re both deploying to the same area or otherwise in the same town but different areas. It happens quite a bit.

If you manage to see a Fibre Me/Upp engineer fixing Lightspeed marked brackets to poles, I’d ask them.

We have Lightspeed availablele in our town, not heard of Fibre Me but on one.network it showed up as Lightspeed themselves doing the work as it's their own network.. We also have YouFibre but they're being laid by Netomnia. Have a look on https://bidb.uk to see if they can give you anymore info.

Contractors for Lightspeed were attaching brackets and digging chambers in Sheringham a little while ago, all the assetts are marked "Lightspeed" with just one chamber cover marked "Gigaclear"
Looks like altnets are using some standard gear in their buildout and perhaps branding can some times be mixed up when 3rd parties are doing the same work for everyone.

It’s been known to happen that chamber lids with labels from other providers get installed sometimes, especially if supply is constrained or some subby grabs the wrong one from the back of the flatbed. Sometimes they come back and refit the correct label / lid.

I suppose the same could happen with distribution mount brackets.

Just to update this, it looks like they are both building separate networks as last week more boxes have appeared on the poles around here labelled UPP broadband (who I understand are Fibre Me) with fibre cables being fed into them from the ground.

I don't really want to leave Zen though so would rather still wait for Openreach. Still no sign of that happening though other than "before Dec 2026"

Sure. But keep an open mind too regarding AltNets.

Will do. It's just that a new estate went up before the pandemic which is served exclusively by See The Light and I've heard mixed things
