Openreach FTTP build in Southampton started early

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I live in an area of Southampton where the Openreach "where and when" checker says there's currently no plans to install FTTP (at least their key doesn't include my area). Just over 2 months ago there was a flurry of activity with Openreach on 'Cheriton Road / SO18 5HJ' and with that I noticed they were installing FTTP CBT's to a few poles on the southern part of the road (and some of Somerset Avenue near the corner shops).

I thought I'd check on BTWholesale availability checker today and it's showing FTTP available to the addresses in proximity to the Openreach poles. Both roads are already served by VM 1Gb, Openreach FTTC and are part of Toob's 900/900 FTTP rollout so I'm wondering why bearing in mind they're not part of the official Openreach rollout they've been livened up already? Would anyone "in the know" have a clue/any insider information? Maybe Openreach have started their rollout early, or forgot to update the map, but why have they stopped with just a small section of two roads?

Openreach have several differentl FTTP build programs , fibre first is obviously by far the largest . Small clusters are likely be part of a different build programme

@Witchunt

Could I ask a massive favour to see if you could let me know if DE5 3GJ is likely of an FTTP upgrade any time soon?

Thanks in advance

Ripley

It is likely that he can only tell you what appears on the OR checker and the published lists

What other build plans do they have?

I'd assume strategic would probably be Fibre First, and then more tactical strategies would go after VM and City Fibre?

Put your address into https://bidb.uk/ and keep an eye on it from time to time.

Roadworks are a good indication of FTTP build activity, even if you're not in the Fibre First plan.

Fibre First, their rural towns and villages programme, RNS (retro new sites). There's also BDUK work (including R100 in Scotland), CFP work, USO work and some infill that isn't part of any specific programs.

I've probably missed some.

I have no clue what program BT would have this under, as I say the two roads have very decent broadband available to them already. I guess it'll remain a mystery.

If they were built in the last 30-40 years, are fully ducted and are built in isolation to surrounding older streets then it's highly likely to be RNS (retro new site) work.
It's something that can be checked by those in the know as Openreach label it as RNS work on their internal systems.
